laundry

Hopefully, it won't come to this, because it is my vacation. But what are the options for doing laundry on site?

Re: laundry

All of Disney's resorts have on site laundry facilities. They're usually located close to the pool area. Just check with the front desk when you arrive and they will be able to tell you where exactly to find the laundry facilities closest to your room.

Re: laundry

We did laundry while at POR. There were several machines near the pool. We spent some time relaxing and chatting with other WDW lovers while we did laundry. My one suggestion is to either bring a roll of quarters or get them before you go over to the machines. We got over there and realized that there wasn't a change machine, so DH had to truck it over to the main bldg for change.

Re: laundry

Doing laundry at WDW isn't so bad. The machines are usually near the pool and the pool bar. So you can load the washer take a dip in the pool, load the dryer have a nice refreshing frozen drink at the pool bar and sit and relax for a few minutes. I usually bring a book down to the pool area while I am doing my laundry, I get one of those refreshing frozen drinks and sat on a lounge chair waiting for my laundry.

Re: laundry

We always do laundry at WDW. Last time we stayed in the main building at GF and I joked that we might have been the first people to use the washers there ...

Re: laundry

Doing laundry at WDW is as easy as mentioned. Our laundry room at POR by the quiet pool did have a change machine. I suggest taking some prepackaged detergent (I do my own premeasured in zip loc bags) and dryer sheets. Also a roll of quarters. The loads cost $2 per machine and each cycle takes 30 min. So if you can fill several machines at a time, you can be done in an hour or so. OUr facility had about 12 each, washers and dryers.

Re: laundry

We also bring laundry soap with us (I think you can get a travel size liquid tide for .99 and it will do 4 loads). Bring quarters, if you don't use them for laundry, use them in the pressed penny machine!

Re: laundry

Just got back from PO-R and did laundry two times.

As others have mentioned, take your own quarters. While there are change machines in the laundry room, they did not work.

Each load is $2 for wash and $2 to dry. The load takes 30 minutes in each the washer and the dryer (wish my machines here at home did laundry that fast!) The dryers were pretty good about drying things the first run. The second time I did laundry, I split the 2 loads of wash into 3 loads to dry and that worked better.

Oh, one thing I noticed while doing laundry, all of the moms said they were doing laundry just so they could have an hour of piece and quiet from their husbands and kids.

Re: laundry

We always do laundry at WDW. I usually do it late at night when no one else is there, that I way I can up the whole place if I need too. I packed soap powder pre-measured in ziplock bags and used dryer sheets. Take a roll of quartes with you and a good book.

Re: laundry

We just got back from WDW 4 days ago & I did laundry a few times. The one time it was raining out so I didn't feel like I was wasting my vacation time. The other times were good pool times. It kind of offered a break in the day.

Re: laundry

Bob and I usually do laundry once or twice due to the length of our trips. We have done laundry at POR, WL, and AKL.

We take soap and dryer sheets, and usually a bunch of quarters. Once at POR I went to the food court to get some quarters. I told the CM what I wanted them for and he pulled out a roll and asked if I would like to get them that way! {It worked quite nicely, too].

We often do laundry when we change resorts (if we do). We have had good luck getting into our rooms early in the morning. I know the last time we did laundry at POR it was pouring rain, so we too did not feel like we were sacrificing much--it was a nice opportunity to slow down and rest a bit in the afternoon.

Re: laundry

We did the laundry when we stayed at POR and from what I recall, it is right by the pool so you can get some R&R and laundry done at the same time! I do appreciate Disney doing that and not sticking you in the dark basement to do laundry when you are away on vacation...at least it is next to the pool so you can still kick back and relax.
