Can you check in at Holiday rates, check out, and re-check in at Value rates?

I didn't know quite how to ask this question, but here goes. I have booked a trip for next year after Christmas and to stay for the New Year's. I want to stay 4 days after the New Year. If I book it all together I will get charged the Holiday rate for my whole stay. If I check out on the 1st and then check back in on the 1st, I will get value season. It saves about $200.00 a day. To me it seems worth it. Has anyone done this before? How much of a hassle is it? I will be staying at the same hotel. Right now I have a trip planned for spring, I don't know if we will be able to go because I have a sick dog. However, I am hoping to be able to go in the spring and next year. A cheaper rate will convince my DH.

Re: Can you check in at Holiday rates, check out, and re-check in at Value rates?

it's a fairly common practice. you'll obviously have to book the room twice, so just make notes on both reservations about the changeover. there's an absolute minimal chance you may have to switch rooms between reservations, so linking the two will help. also mention it when checking in, as the CM can reassign you rooms as available if needed.

the only issue you may encounter is if you plan on using the DDP.

Re: Can you check in at Holiday rates, check out, and re-check in at Value rates?

I thought they recently changes this policy -- I know that I read that it would affect checking in during a value season that changed to a holiday season. (Disney announced that they were going to charge value rates for just the days of the value season and then charge you the holiday rate for those days in the holiday season.)

Can anyone confirm this?
Eileen

PS - if they are still doing it the old way, then ... yes... it's worth it to make two separate reservations and do the check-out and check-in to get the lower rate.

Re: Can you check in at Holiday rates, check out, and re-check in at Value rates?

A far as I know they are still doing it the old way. I have my ressie booked for next December and I am only being charged the value rate even though half of my stay is in the Holiday season. When I initally booked though they booked it as 2 seperate ressies. I finally got in touch with a WDW TA that was able to get it straightened out for me.

I also got in touch with AAA and you can use their travel agents for packages with out being a member, since they are an actual travel agency. They took over my ressie and saved me another $500.00 on top of the $1600.00 the last WDW TA saved me.

Re: Can you check in at Holiday rates, check out, and re-check in at Value rates?

I plugged in some dates on the Disney website and found the same thing. I did it a few different ways. I am starting out at the Holiday and ending in value and it looks like I would be charged for the Holiday rate the whole time. I am only going to be there 2 days of the holiday and 4 or 5 of the value. I may have to do 2 reservations. I have a wonderful TA that I go through from MouseEar Vacations. I will talk to her when she gets back.

Yes, I've done exactly what you're asking about and during the same time!

It was quite easy...not a hassle at all & I think the savings is worth it. In fact they take care of everything. You just need to mention it when you check-in & and go to the desk the morning to check in & out again.(go before the crowds-many will let you do it after mid-night the day of)
We changed resorts, we started at POFQ & after New Years moved to Animal Kingdom L. They moved our Luggage & the value rate made AKL even more Magical.

Re: Can you check in at Holiday rates, check out, and re-check in at Value rates?

Did you have a package? I am wondering what happens to the park tickets. Booking two packages makes the park passes much more expensive. We really like the park passes tied in with the resort key. I may just stay at the same resort, and check out and it. We want to go to the Boardwalk. I was thinking about splitting, but my DD loves the Boardwalk. I feel sort of weird checking in and out of the same resort, but boy can I save if I do.
