Question Off site motels before and after Disney

I need opinions on an off site hotel/motel for 1 night before and 3 nights after WDW. We're arriving a day before we check into POP, so we'd like something along hwy 192 for the night before, and we're going to Universal for a couple of days afterward, so we need a room fairly close to USF.

Safe, clean, and cheap are important here. I've done some research on the subject, but some outside input would be nice. I've been looking at the Master's Inn MG and HoJo MG for the night before and Clarion Universal and Master's Inn I-Drive for the 3 nights after.

Thanks in advance.

Barry

The only one I'm familiar with is the Hampton Maingate East off 192 and I-4. Our friends stayed there and enjoyed it. Said the rooms and pool were clean and had free breakfast every day. Since it's very close to I-4, Universal would only be about 15 minutes away.

Have a great trip.

Just a FYI, I don't believe the Hampton Inn Maingate East exists anymore. We used to stay there our first night as we would fly in late the day before. Our last stay, it was being converted over to another hotel (it's now the Palms Hotel by Lexington). I can't find it on the Hilton website either. It was a great hotel that had a great free breakfast

Have you considered one of the hotels at Downtown Disney? We've stayed at the Hotel Royal Plaza several times, and it was fine. It has also been recently remodeled.

Check MouseSavers.com - Disney Discount - Disney World Discounts - Disneyland Discounts - there are several off-property hotels with good deals that she recommends.

On our last visit to Disney, we wanted to save money, so we tried an off-site hotel. We were very impressed with the Courtyard by Marriott Lake Buena Vista on Palm Parkway. It's only about 1/2 mile from the Disney entrance (downtown disney entrance) and it was VERY nice. The room was clean and very well appointed. Great beds! The pool was nice and very warm. Here's a link to the hotel...
Courtyard Orlando Lake Buena Vista at Vista Centre: Comfort designed for business travelers in Orlando

Free internet! (unlike POP)
Decent hottub
We didn't try the breakfast, as there are a ton of restaurants all around the hotel.

It was safe and clean. As for the cost- we went during off-season (December) and booked through a AAA hot deal and got the room for $59/night! I don't know what you'll pay in peak season??

In 05 we stayed on International at the Best Western because I got a $39 empl rate. I think their regular "Best Rate" is around $59 and it is a couple of blocks down from Wonderworks. We liked the location alot for Universal. Though we didn't use it, they do offer shuttle service to the attractions. We did have a fridge and all of their rooms have coffee makers. All in all, good for the price, even at $59.

You could always check the reviews on the travel sites (orbitz and such) even if you book through the property directly.

I've gotten excellent deals on Prieline, including the Hyatt in the airport for $50. a night. If you're not too fussy, I would bid on a 3* or up. I think you'll get something a lot nicer than a Master's Inn.

Both Hiton and Marriott's often have good deals. I've gotten the Homewood Suites for $79.00/night.

We have stayed at the Days Inn Suite on 192 right next to Old Town. It was cheap for a suite with kitchen and there is a hotel there also which is even cheaper. The rooms were clean and they had a pool, which my kids can't live without.

I would look on the Universal website and check out their preferred hotel list. Then find out what is close and what meets your price needs. Most of their preferred hotels are nearby.

I read somewhere (either here or the DISBoards) that this is not a Days Inn anymore and that it's in even worse shape than it used to be, so I would avoid it.

On 192, I would check the Clarion Hotel Maingate, Best Western Lakeside, or Quality Inn Maingate West.

We've stayed at the Wydham in Downtown Disney and it is really nice. But if your looking for cheap, I don't know.
