| What are the little known secrets or must do items for AKL? My in-laws are making their first ever vacation alone and are staying at AKL. They want to RELAX and arrive on the 2nd and fly out on the 5th. What should they explore or plan to do at the resort? I told them about the storytime around the fire, night time viewing with the goggles and the hot tubs. They're also going to order breakfast in one day so they can eat on their balcony while watching the animals. Anything else? Thanks so much! |

| Make time for all the overlooks (they are on every room "trail"). Make sure to eat at one of the restaurants (Boma or Jiko).

| I agree - make time to spend time by the savannahs watching the animals. Even if they have a savannah view, go and explore the other trails, as they'll see different animals. I would suggest meals at both Jiko and Boma as well and it's worth browsing the shop, as it's got some great items in it. We also just spent time sitting in the lobby, watching the world go by.

| There are a couple of quiet little nooks just off from the lobby area where they can just sit and enjoy the African theming, plus there's chairs in the middle if they want to be in the thick of it. For hidden Mickey hunters, there's a few to find -- I know of one for sure in the lobby and I think there's 3 or 4 in The Mara. Make sure to tell them to touch the lucky wall art thingy on the way out of the resort... that ensures that they will come back!

| We just really enjoyed our quiet times late at night on our balcony watching all the nocturnal animals. I am sure there were other people watching the animals too but it really felt like it was our secret savanna |

| 1. Pick up a Hidden Mickey scavenger hunt sheet from the front desk. It has clues on it to where the mickeys are. DH and I spent an afternoon searching for them. We had fun, and other guests kept asking what we were doing. 2. Make your own safari. Inside the room there is a sheet that lists all the animals. DH and I took our camera and binoculars and looked for and checked off every animal on the list. There are different animals on different savannahs, and some are more elusive than others, so this can take a while. We did this on a rain day instead of going to the parks. This is neat too because you can record for your photo what exactly the animal was called. We got some of our best shots not at the designated viewing locations, but on the staircases outside at the end of the hallways. 3. African Museum. Along all the hallways are all kinds of exhibits about african life, and artwork, etc. 4. Chat up the CMs. Most of them are really happy to talk about their home, their customs, the animals ... the hostess at Jiko showed us a photo album of her hometown which was really neat. |

| This is for those with children - do the cookie decorating in Boma. They have it every afternoon around 3pm. It is free! They get to decorate large animal shaped cookies with colored icing, sprinkles and gummy bears.

| There is also a free culinary tour in Jiko and Boma. Have them check at the desk for days/times.

| We just got back from staying at the AKL I loved sitting by the fire with a nice glass of wine just watching the fire and relaxing in the evening. The African wines are wonderful if they enjoy that kind of thing. We especially loved Jiko. Boma was good also just very hectic when we went.
