Thought we'd see the Tree Houses on Thursday

We'll be in WDW on Thursday and my plans were to take a ride up the Sassagoula River and see the Tree Houses. Well, it seems we may just see some rubble on the boat ride since the Houses were being torn down last week. Oh well, we'll just have to go back at a later date and see the new and improved Tree Houses when they are built. Always a reason to go back to WDW.

I didn't know they'd be torn down so soon, either. We saw them in April and thought the location was perfect! Can't wait to see the new ones next year!

Can't wait to see what they put up in their place. I saw them in 2005 when we rented Sea Raycers from POR.

Hmmmm.... I have to go check out the rumor mill. I was under the impression that they couldn't be rebuilt because the land was protected.

Here's a link to the article on The Orlando Sentinel back in Feb about this...

Walt Disney World to rebuild Treehouse Villas -- -- OrlandoSentinel.com

I remember seeing the plans for the new ones somewhere, but can't find the link to that right now...

Okay, found it...

Here's the link to the thread from back in Feb...

Treehouse Villas to be rebuilt!

In it is a link to the article on Mouseplanet.com (Walt Disney World Park Update (Walt Disney World Park Update) by Mark Goldhaber) which has pictures/drawings of the existing and proposed structures. Some concessions were made to be able to build new structures instead of spending more than they were worth to refurbish...

I'm glad that they are already preparing to build the bigger treehouses...Gotta love how they worked around the "footprint" issue.
I'd love to be able to stay in one again; I stayed in one on my very first WDW trip.

Wow! Thanks for posting that article on MousePlanet with the plans. Hopefully they will keep these as a part of the SSR property as that's our home resort and we'll be able to reserve one of those from time to time if our kids would like to bring friends. Can you imagine staying out there? The property in that area seems far and away so much more peaceful than even the quietest resorts. We're not heading to WDW until January, but when we do we'll have to take a ride along the river to check progress. Yay!

I'm glad they started already, also! The location and surroundings are perfect, only the houses themselves looked run down. I can imagine a huge demand for the new treehouses once they're finished! Too bad, though, that they only have the large units (no suitable accomodations for only two adults ).

We just took the boat to DTD on Sat(the 17th) and they were still up. There is certainly signs of them being torn down, but it looked more like they are taking them down piece by piece. You might still be able to get a look at them.
