Yacht Club Concierge - Should we switch?

We will be staying at the Yacht Club - Club Level from 9/16 to 9/25 and have some concerns. A few years ago, we stayed at WL-Club Level and had an overall good experience. Having breakfast and snacks available was a big plus but the concierge staff was pretty hit or miss.

We bookeed the Club Level at YC this time because our travel agent said it was a great resort (and the AKL was unavailable). This time, we will be on the dining plan so the food benefits are less important to us.

Now that I have read some negative reviews about the concierge lounge and staff and the garden view room views, I'm thinking we should have just booked the GF garden view room (not club level), which was about the same price.

What do you guys think? Are my concerns founded or unfounded?

I think that wherever you stay, you'll hear of horrible experiences and wonderful experiences. I think both the Yacht Club and the GF are gorgeous resorts and they're both on my list of places to stay.

What I would do is look at the resort itself. Would you prefer to be right on top of the Magic Kingdom (GF) or in between EPCOT and DHS (YC)? In this case, rather than trying to decide about the services, since you say that you can live without club level, choose the resort / parks that you think you'd be best served by being near.

I can't wait to hear! Either way you can't lose, if you ask me!

I agree. No matter where you stay there is going to be someone who had a negative experience.

Good luck making your decision!

I've never had a concierge stay anywhere, but have stayed at both YC and GF in garden rooms. The YC room seemed quieter (we overlooked the front drive) without toilet flushing sounds that we could hear in our GF room (Sago Cay looking toward the monorail across a spit of lagoon). I really like both resorts. At YC, being able to walk to Epcot and the Studios is our favorite thing about it's location. We spend a lot of time on those parks so that works well for us. Jumping on the monorail or boat to get to MK at GF was really nice too.

I agree that you should be thinking in terms of where you'd like to be located and choose your resort that way. I generally ignore individual tales of woe about a resort as much as possible, because everyone will have very different experiences at resorts. I'd prefer to test them out for myself.

Good luck in making your choice.

The thing that least impressed me about our YC stay in December was the concierge lounge. It was cramped and the nightly food selections were okay at best. Breakfast offerings were fine. If you're going to be on the dining plan, then that may not matter to you anyway. The concierge staff was pretty ho hum - - except for one CM, Scott, who really made our trip.

On the other hand, our room was gorgeous, our view was gorgeous and you just can't beat the location.

As someone says above, I think it just depends on where you want to stay.

Thanks

I think I'll stick with the Yacht Club reservation. Stormalong Bay looks great and I like the proximity to Epcot and the Studios. I'll definitely let you all know how experience at YC concierge compared to WL concierge!

I couldn't agree more - this is excellent advice! Plus, I think that you'll be happy no matter which hotel you choose. Good luck!

We enjoyed our stay at the YC concierge very much. I agree with Jill that the staff was a bit ho hum, but we found the same to be true for the concerige staff at the Poly and the AKL. The BC on the other hand, had an outstanding group of concierge CMs.

I think you will be very happy with the choice you have made. SAB is great and you can't beat being able to walk into Epcot's back door.

I love YC and it is my favorite place to stay. however, i don't think the paltry amounts of food put out in concierge is worth this extra expense. The concierge at GF was heads above! so, if you don't need to concierge lounge because you have dining plan, i agree with everyone else...where you gonna spend the most time? me, i like having quick access to Epcot and HS, also boardwalk. but if it is MK, then i would go to GF.

Have fun!

We have stayed many times at YC-C. Is it as "down-home" as WL-C? I do love the free-feeling of the WL-C and would love to stay there anytime! But YC is a beautiful resort - and as you noticed, Stormalong Bay is the added plus to it! The food offerings can be downright normal to let's give this a whirl even though it looks strange! But overall, we have had evenings when the offerings were enough that we didn't need dinner. (Of course with your free dining plan, I'm sure you won't be searching the lounge for too much!)

The YC-C cms are just like all cms on property. Hit and miss. I find taking the time to talk to them and being friendly 99% of the time works. They warm up to you and have a smile and hello when they see you. I have never had a problem with any ADRs or specialty events with them! They have always come through on everything I asked when it was 180 days out. We have even always been lucky to get our specialty cruises.

Enjoy!

I had to make the same decision for our trip, since we couldn't get the Poly like we'd originally planned. For me it was all about the location, so we went with the GF in the end.

I agree that you'll probably hear mixed things about ANY hotel, although I'm a little surprised that the concierge service is lacking!

Whichever you decide, I'm sure you will have a magical trip!!!
