Smile We switched!

Thank you to everyone for all the advice in my previous post regarding a switch from POFQ to POP! We did the big switch last night and we weren't even charged $50 for downgrading! I am a little sad about having to switch from POFQ because it looks very pretty and I was very excited to be there....BUT the grand total for what we are saving is $927.86 and that is a LOT in these crummy economic times! Plus, I can buy a LOT of things with that kind of money! I have read everything I could find about POP anywhere I could find it and it seems to get more favorable reviews than not! And it seems most of the complaints involve noise...which really has never bothered us anywhere we've gone...and the busses...and we will have our own car there if the busses are so bad! Alot of people have said the room size difference is not really noticeable and we really only use the room to shower and sleep...I like to be on the go and see EVERYTHING when we are there! I have also looked at any pictures I could find and it looks very fun there! I will be happy to just be at Disney for 11 nights and my daughter is coming around...we have had a couple of talks about the reality of life! I hope it will be great and I am sure it will be! And I told my husband that now we have TWO reasons that we HAVE to plan another trip...1) a stay at POFQ and 2) the Keys to the Kingdom tour that I so wanted to take but won't be running while we are there.

Again, thanks for everyone's opinions and advice! Does anyone have any advice as to what buildings to put in a request for? We asked for the 50's because...well, I don't know why...they just looked good! Is that a good request?

Thanks!!

Great Savings. And why would you have been charged $50 for downgrading? The only charges I'm aware of is if you make changes days 44 to arrival on packages.

Are you looking for preferred or not? The 50's building is half and half. The 60's building is completely preferred. I'm not sure what the other buildings are. I know yesterday or the day before, there was a thread here about the 80's building being not too bad but you have to cut across the parking lot for the short route to check in and the food court. I know Willcad has a website (I think Willcad.org, not sure though) that shows the map of Pop.

I don't think you'll regret going Pop. We've never stayed there and my mom is set in her ways, but she's looking forward to staying there this year. Good luck in the rest of your planning.

I never heard of a downgrading charge either, they would just cancel the one ressie, and rebook another.
but you will love Pop, its fun.

In my last post someone had mentioned a $50 charge for downgrading to a Value from a Moderate. I am not sure...I just know that there was no mention of a $50 charge to downgrade to which I say Yay!!!

I think as far as a building goes, we are really not looking for preferred since we aren't really there anyway and it seems like preferred looks out over water. We aren't picky about that. I am thinking of the 50's building closest to the parking lot because I am HORRIBLE at packing...I have to bring everything! But, I am good at organizing so it is a compact everything. So, there can be a good deal of lugging things back and forth to the car. I know the rooms are smaller so I am going to really try and do better...but worse comes to worst, if I am near the parking lot, I can at least lug things back and forth AND be close to whatever is still in the car. (My husband is excited because there was mention of being able to get a cart to bring in your luggage and he would LOVE that!)
Anyway, do you think the 50's is a good choice or should I look at maybe 70's,80's,90's side since I read somewhere that it is closer to the bus stop over there? I am not in love with the 60's because of the whole not-worried-enough-about-a-view-to-pay-extra thing AND it looks like we would have to lug our stuff through the main building and pool area to get to our room!

Friends of mine LOVE LOVE LOVE Pop and they recommend the 70s if I ever get there. They just like where it's situated. She said something like close enough, but far enough too. Hope that helps.

You won't actually have to lug your stuff through check in. At the values, there are enough paths going around the building so you wouldn't have to do that. And if you didn't pay for a preferred room and don't really care where you stay, closer to your vacation, I would call Disney and just request a parking lot side room if possible. Requests are just that, a request that Disney can't guarantee but they try their best to fill them. And truthfully, I'm not sure that parking lot view (you don't see it from the shower or when you're sleeping - right ?) is high on the request list (most people I think want pool side or close to food court, etc) so you'll probably be able to get it.

POP is a great choice! After being spoiled by deluxe resorts, we tried POP to save some $$$ on a last-minute trip and really enjoyed it. It was bright, clean and a lot of fun. I really can't remember which building we stayed in, but I recall checking the Passporter for recommendations. We got what we requested, which included a fireworks view, and were very pleased with our room. The building was not too far from the pool and food court... and definitely wasn't preferred. Good luck... and feel good about your choice. I'm sure you'll put that extra money to great use!

The only negative to the 50's for you that I can see is that the food court and buses are on the opposite side of the main building from that section. The check in area is nearest the 50's, but thats a small inconvenience.

I tend to prefer the 80's myself. I also think there are more 80's rooms near parking lots if that is a big consideration. Overall I think if one areas theme appeals to you more than another, go with that one! I was a high school / college student in the 80's so the theming, plus the 80's music they play by the 80's pool really won me over.

We have stayed in the 70's 3 times preferred, and this last trip I just went standard got the 50's building and that was just as nice a spot. We actually could just walk out the room down a bit and see the fireworks from Epcot. Couldnt do that from the 70's area we were in. The walk is really nothing to the food court or bus stop area, at least for us it isnt. I walk that far to feed my horses each day. I guess some people just dont do any walking. You will enjoy Pop we always stayed at Moderate, and DVC with our Daughter since they joined that. When we go ourselvs now we do Pop it lets us go more often.
