  • Free transportation within Disney World
  • Free parking at all parks (if you have a car)
  • Resort package delivery
  • Resort charging privileges
  • Access to the Extra Magic Hours benefit (much more time in the parks)

and, I'm sure, others that I've forgotten.

Many, many people enjoy off-site accomodations, but I feel that staying on property is best for my family and our style of vacation.

I agree...this is why we will never again stay off property...also why we bought into DVC last year (finally).

It is, for me, something intangible - aside from all the perqs. I love the MAGIC of it all. I don't think I will ever stay off-site, regardless of how great a DEAL it is. I'd rather "rough it" at a Value resort (I've been to ASMu a few times) than stay anywhere off-site.

I agree with everything that Melissa said. I work hard to be able to afford my Disney trips. I don't want to NOT see Mickey Heads and friendly CM's when I am there!

We stay at the moderates now with kids but have stayed at the deluxe BC(before children). i priced it out for the 4 of us going in sept at a moderate resort it is less than $90 a day per person for staying at a disney hotel going to the park and food(free dining plan). I dont think you can go anywhere in the world and get a safe clean place to take your family and have the entertainment that your get at Walt Disney World for that amount of money.I always try to keep in mind that $2 bottle of water is not just for the water it is for the person who deals with the bottle and other trash we throw away and for the person who replaces the toilet paper, which i really appreciate lol and for the wonderful fireworks we see at night. If u break it down to per person per day for what u get it really is a good deal

I agree with Eileen. Staying at a WDW resort has perks that I use, as I don't have a car there. Plus the EMH, parcel delivery, and that Disney magic you don't get off site. I've stayed on & off site, & to me it's so worth staying on site. The buss service alone is worth it, not having to worry about bus schedules for off site hotels. You can take that mid day break easily. When we stayed of site we couldn't, because the hotel didn't have mid day shuttles, only morning & evening.

You guys are a hoot! I'm laughing so hard!

I just find it SOOO ironic (because I have a serious luxury hotel addiction) that the places I would usually be scraping to pay (<cough> Ritz is usually $400-$600/night for just a BASIC room) is CHEAPER than my $250 Disney room.

I know there are so many extras built into the price at Disney... heck we all pay it... I just found it beyond weird. Especially in Orlando where I thought the luxury brands would still have a corner on the market; Disney or no Disney.

I will say that I convinced my mother to stay on property in a value resort for the first time in 2006 because the food could already be priced out and we didn't have to rent a car. We stayed within our budget doing that.

There are so many things that you do get by staying on property - that it is just worth it to me!
I have never regretted one dollar I spent to stay at a WDW resort!

Well, I am probably the only one who feels this way, but I like leaving the magic! I know, you are all shaking your heads in amazement. BUT, I like downtime. I have timeshare off property. The price difference always worked for us. Since we have 6 in our family, our choices at WDW are just too limited. We did look at Saratoga Springs, but we like our timeshares options for travel other than Disney better. We have gone to Williamsburg, VA, St. Maarten, St. Croix to name a few...... I like to leave the magic, and I like the feeling I get everytime we drive back on property. We always have a car whether we drive or fly, stay on or off property. I am not a fan of the bus system. I would rather stay at a nice hotel off property for a good price. But it is all up to personal preferences. Bottom line, I can't pay the price for the Poly for just a normal room. I know it is a normal room in an awesome place, but can't do it. (and I have stayed their twice so I know the magic there).

Bottom line? They charge more because they can. They are "the place" to be for a lot of families.....
