No offense to Nemo and Friends (love you guys) but I think themes like this should stay over at ASMo. Although, DH is going to be ten kinds of excited when he hears about PotC themed rooms.

Disney has managed to slip character-themed decor into the Moderates and Deluxes every so often, even before this. The bed spreads at the Grand Floridian have (or maybe had, at this point), a Wind in the Willows motif - Mr. Toad, etc. The Disneyland Hotel had Tink borders around the ceiling, among other things (I'm not sure what they'll have after the current rehab).

There's always a balancing act with this kind of thing. Characters tend to add some kid-friendliness and whimsy, while avoiding all Disney references tends to satisfy the "grownup" in us. The way they're used in most hotel decor (worked into the bedspreads, drapes, carpeting, and in narrow strips around the ceiling) it works more like "seasoning" than "theming." Call it, "Sprinkling pixie dust." Now, when you have great big statues of Buzz and Woody out in the courtyard, and the sides of the building are covered in iconography, that's another matter entirely.

Yeah... a little bit of character is a nice little touch. I remember the bedspreads at the GF. And it's those subtle touches that make it Disney. I don't mind the bedspread so much in these new CBR pictures as that border. That border around the room is what pushes it over the edge in my opinion.

Hmmmmm.....wouldn't it be nice if they only did a portion of the rooms with the new Nemo and friends theme? The other portion could be refurbished, just continue it with a nice "adult" feel? You know - nice Caribbean Beach feel minus the characters?
I love Nemo - but I agree that it isn't necessary to have a character theme to every resort. I too love the fact that when I go into the WL - it is a true feeling of a lodge in the Northwest. And the Poly - it is the closest to being on a pacific island that I have ever gotten to!
I have never stayed at CBR - but I want to. It won't keep me from staying there, I just wish we had a choice!

While it is cute, I don't care for it. I agree with the posters like Kris and Sue and Melissa. Leave that to the values. I love the feeling that I have just walked into another part of the country/world. Just my opinion. I guess that is why they have so many different resorts with different themes.

As odd as it seems for Nemo and friends to have migrated half a world away , the new rooms seem tropically-themed enough to remind me of the Caribbean! I personally wouldn't avoid a return visit to CBR based on the new decor (I especially love the curtains - but the border is a little much!), but I can see where people may find it distressing and not in keeping with the more subtle theming of the moderates

I've always been a fan of CBR and loved the look it had previously. Trust me, I love Nemo and Friends but I think the border is a bit much. I don't mind the little touches in the bedspreads and I do LOVE the curtains, but I definitely prefer the older style. Guess I'll see what it's like in September.

Not sure what you are saying here - are you asserting that they are not going to redo CBR? Check official Disney sites, CBR is being redone. Now, it is possible that the pictures are fakes of actual CBR refurbishment but .......different pictures that have essentially the same bed spread, wall paper, etc. are showing up on different sites. As for the pool refurbishment......if you look closely the theme there will fit very nicely with the theme for the Family Suites

I had no idea they were going to make family suites at the moderates!!

I still wish they'd do something with those eyesore brown buildings that make the 2nd half of Pop Century. It's such a shame to see those buildings just existing.

While I like the bedspread, flat-screened TV and curtains, I think the border is a little overkill. I hope they're not thinking of incorporating movies into all of the resorts.

Anybody have a date of when the family suites with the POTC theme will be done next year? We're targeting Oct. as a return date and I'd love to be able to surprise Ds with this!
