I've stayed at both POP and ASMu. I have to say I was kind of turned off by the pictures, but I found the resorts to be much nicer in person. There is a lot of beautiful landscaping and the Icons fit in much better than the pictures show. There are a lot of little Disney details in all of the resorts. While I'm a DVC club member and the moderate resorts, I'll definitely be staying at the Value resorts again for short stay.

My feeling is that unless you have a wad of cash to throw away, POP is the place to go... If the "icons" bother you there are rooms on the "outside" so to speak (not near the courtyards) that have minimal views of them. 80's and 70's both have rooms like this, and aren't very far from the lakeside parking lot... look at the maps of the place online and make a request for them. As far as the inside of the rooms, they are pretty much your standard-fare hotel. I would say the rooms are much like an econo-lodge or comfort inn, but they are much better than that in that they are extremely clean and the mousekeeping keeps the place like a 5-star.

So unless you really need to stay at an upgraded place to get the "feel"" of staying somewhere else, POP is the way to go... We basically just use the room for showering, sleeping, and a place to keep all our crap.
