Why No More Surprises from Mouse Keeping?

In Sept. 2005 at ASMovies, when we returned to our room from a day out, our kids were thrilled to find all of their Disney character toys posed in funny ways, holding the t.v. remote, on the toilet holding the tissue, holding a toothbrush. It was a hoot! This last trip, the mouse keepers made some cute towel animals and a towel mickey head for our arrival day and that was it. We were kind of disappointed. Does anyone know why they stopped this? Or does ASMovies just have fun mouse keepers? We speculated that they stopped because someone got mad because they didn't like the maids touching their kids toys. Just wondering.

Those little magical things are just that--magic. The very randomness of them is what makes them special.

Whether or not you get any of those extras may depend upon the time, talent and inclination of your Mousekeeper. If they are rushed because someone called in sick, or new and don't know how to do them, or just feeling tired, you probably won't get anything. We have stayed at AS Music 6-7 times and have had towel animals 3 times. Last year it was simply 3 towels rolled to make a Mickey on the bed--but we still thought it was cool to open the door the first time and see it there.

In any event, I wish you lots of magic on your next trip--towel guys or not!

I get them almost every day. I'd like to think my MouseKeeping envelopes provide an incentive to return the favor after they see that I put a little bit of effort into my envelope creation.

Our maid at Port Orleans never did, so we did not bother with tips as the room was not cleaned either. We were lucky if the beds got fresh sheets on them.

We've stayed in many different resorts and many different levels over my 14 trips and have found that most of our mousekeepers DO NOT take the time to do the extras. We've had one that did at WL and one at ASMu, but that's about it that I recall.

I'm so sorry you were disappointed this time around.

I kinda wish they were all trained or asked to do this in every room~so everyone gets that little bit of magic! It's only happened to us once, but this year as Rob has said we are making pretty cool mousekeeping tip envelopes (and i'm hoping to catch their eye with them!)

We bring a bunch of stuffed characters (beanie baby sized from The Disney Store) and they are almost always set up in different ways when we return to our room.

This has been on the two trips that we've stayed on property... 12/2007 and 7/2008.

The 2007 trip was at Port Orleans and July of 2008 was at Wilderness Lodge.

I'll be back at POR for Mousefest in December so we'll see if my luck holds out!

We always experienced that magic when we stayed at AKL, POFQ, Contemporary, CBR. The mousekeeping staff always arranged my daughter's toys or stuffed animals or left washcloth animals for us. This August, however, we stayed at Coronado Springs and we didn't receive a mousekeeing surprise once in the week we were there. There were washcloth animals in the windows of other rooms that we could see but nothing for us. We always left "thank you mousekeeping" envelopes with tips. I know it is supposed to be extra magic and not to be expected but when you experience it on all previous trips, you really do expect it and it is a bit disappointing when it doesn't happen.

We were at Pop in May, and every room in our row had stuff except ours! I have two DS7&14, and NOTHING!

Don't feel bad; we never received towel characters. We tip everyday too. I won't give up though! Next trip is less than a month so maybe this will be the time!

We have been to Disney many times and stayed at many different resorts, and have NEVER gotten a towel animal. It is really just hit and miss.

Okay, well, that makes me feel better. We were mostly disappointed for our kids. They have been talking about that since our last trip and were looking forward to it. We even made a point to bring our Disney toys (the beanie type & other small posable figures) and left them out hoping they would do something. But I think I was more disappointed than they were! When they saw nothing was done, they were kind of like "oh well". The kids even made cute tip envelopes which we left everyday. Mouse Keeping did do a good job at cleaning our room and being patient with us when we slept in. I actually am glad that it was not someone's complaint or that the hotels no longer allowing them to do it. However, I think if it is someone's honeymoon, b'day or anniversary or some other special occasion it would be nice to have them do something more consistent.

We always leave a tip in a cute homemade envelope and we've occasionally come back to something cute in our room. POFQ has seemed to do the most. Back in March we had towel animals at least 3 days and one day they set up the bambi and thumper that was in the easter basket DH had delievered to me with a towel flower basket. It was cute But in contrast, in Aug. at POFQ we had one towel animal on arrival and that was all for the trip...

on a side note... DH has pointed out all the premade animals on the mousekeeping cart as we have passed by outside.... So I don't know what makes them decide to leave something...
