| OK we really got into decorating our window at POP last year. This year since the theme is What Will You Celebrate; the DD's and I have decided to celebrate our hero ( DH). We are keeping it a secret from him ( heeehee 1. Can you tape things on the glass? I want to use bulletin board type paper letters to spell out "Celebrating Our Hero" but will need to tape them to the glass. 2. I have some military decals ( like transparent auto decals) to put on the window, should I tape these or can I put them on the outside of the window?? 3. Does anyone know the dimensions of the glass ( width specifically) I need to see what size letters I need to use. TIA I know if anyone will know it will be the Passporters!! |

| I'd recommend trying to find window "clings" or cling paper that you can print out -- the tape would be pretty obvious... You can do pretty much anything that isn't permanent or doesn't do damage to the window or room. Good luck - sound like fun! Eileen

Have you thought about using the hooks that you would use to hang suncatchers with. I made signs last year (nov 2008) with funfoam and used them hooks and it worked out great. You can get them in packs of 4 at the craft stores. Best part-NO MESS!!!!

| window decorating I'm not sure about using tape on glass, but in the past we used markers that are for glass to decorate our window. I brought along some window cleaner wipes so we could clean the window when we left.

| I think I've seen window cling material at the local craft stores (Hobby Lobby, Michael's, etc). If you could find such a thing, you might be able to make your own window clings. It would take more time to put together, but you could do all that at home rather than having to spend extra time at WDW. (I'm thinking of the extra cleaning time you'd need to spend trying to get tape off the windows after it has sat in July temperatures for a week. I suspect the adhesive will melt, and you'll have to use Goo Gone or something to get it off!)

I LOVE the cling paper and marker ideas too. I may incorporate all of these in one way or another. With the cling paper did any clip art or graphic work or did you use a special application for them? Where is a good place to find the glass markers? Thank you again for all these ideas they are WONDERFUL!

| The resorts really want to discourage the use of tape or other things that are hard to remove when decorating your rooms. Sounds like you've been given some good ideas.

| Because some folks have been abusing the priviledge, Pop Century has recently begun asking some Guests to remove their window decorations or be charged a mandatory clean-up fee upon check-out. The general feeling online is that there were people leaving residue and damage behind, which causes the Mousekeepers to spend more time and effort preparing the room for the next Guest. The two items most likely to cause Pop to ask you to remove your decorations are adhesive (as in tapes or sticky hooks) and window markers. Some folks have been using transparent tape to stick things to the windows, doors, and frames, or to walls inside the room, and when they take the decorations down, the tape leaves sticky residue or even slivers of tape behind. Likewise, when used on walls, ANY adhesive tape can damage paint, wallpaper, or wallboard. Do yourself a favor, and don't use ANY kind of adhesive ANYWHERE in your resort room. Some folks will specifically mention 3M Command Adhesive, which is designed to come off without doing any damage or leaving any residue. I have used these products for years, and I can tell you from experience that they are NOT fool-proof. Pull them off just the tiniest bit crooked, and they will pull off parts of the wall with them. They can also leave residue behind and be very difficult to get off of glass or metal after being exposed to high temps (like Florida sun, for example). Again, do yourself a favor and forget about 3M Command Adhesive. Thumb tacks or push-pins in the walls? Don't even think about it! Free-standing stuffed animals in your window sills? Go for it; the Mousekeepers love that stuff. Vinyl window clings seem to be just fine. Any other type of adhesive is out, but since vinyl window clings use static to stay on, and leave no residue of any kind, they are the best method of window decoration. They're also easy to use; you can buy a pack of them at any craft or office supply store that will work in an inkjet printer. Suction cups also seem to be okay, since they, like vinyl clings, do no damage to glass or metal and leave no residue. Magnetic signs on doors are also okay. Just don't be surprised if they walk off with some other Guest. I've also seen magnetic white boards stuck to the outside of Pop entury doors, but there are tales of nasty messages being left by other Guests, so I don't recommend these. Windows markers and window soap... oh, boy, are these a no-no! Use them, and you're most likely to get a voice mail or a written order from the management to remove them immediately or face a mandatory clean-up fee upon check-out. These things leave all sorts of mess behind, even when you clean them up; they cause streaks and discoloration in the glass, and the Mousekeepers have to use special cleaners to get the windows back to that pure transparent state. Sure, you may say "Well, I'll clean it up before I leave!" but the management has no way to know whether you'll keep that promise or not, so those markers are prohibited. If you want to decorate your room, remember - no adhesve, no hooks, no pins or tacks, and no markers, paints, soaps, or anything else on the windows. Vinyl clings and suction cups, and free-standing stuff, is the way to go. |

| Thanks for posting that, Will. I thought I had heard about them charging a clean up fee, but because I wasn't sure about it, I didn't want mention it myself. Hopefully your suggestions will help the OP make some decisions about what will work for her decorating.

| We decorated our window a lot during our Christmas vacation at Pop this past Christmas. We were never asked to take anything down nor was anything said about a clean-up fee. We did not use tape at all. We used suction cup hooks to hang lights and garland and decorations on the window. We used lots of window clings. We used stuffed animals and garland to decorate the small window ledge whidh is maybe 6 inches or so wide. We did use the hooks that are not supposed to damage the walls to hang our stockings and didn't have a problem. We were there for 11 nights so they had plenty of time to notice and ask us to remove it but they never did. Our mousekeepers even added towel animals to our display for the first few days we were there until it got really busy with Christmas. The window wasn't very wide. Maybe a little bigger than an average window...but I am no good with judging measurement so maybe someone else can tell you exactly how big they are! Have a great trip!
