Question How Many Lay-Offs have there been?

In the recent Lay-Offs, how many Mousekeepers were left go?

We were very surprised they our Room at the Grand Floridian on our recent trip was not ready until exactly 3 PM on the dot (Well, we actually checked back at 3:15.) For all other trips, we have never had to wait longer than 2 PM for a room (except for ASMu).....I would have assumed they would try and be speedy and impressive in the room turnarounds at their "Flagship" Resort but I guess its not the case!

We arrived on a Monday too, which make it even more confusing

I have heard that many of the jobs lost were management-based although I cannot confirm that.

Although I think it is terrific that you've been able to access your room earlier than the norm, I think you were probably very lucky as well. A lot of that is the luck of the draw and so many other factors come into play like whether a guest left on time, if a guest decided to stay longer, whether it is especially busy, etc. Lately it has been pretty rare for us to get into our room at OKW until after 4:00. It is frustrating but it's not as if we don't know about the check-in time.

We are always psyched when we get into our room early, but it doesn't happen often enough that we feel we can expect it although I agree that it can influence your expectations. Serendipity plays a large role here, I suspect.

Disney says the layoffs weren't among the mousekeepers, but I don't think anyone is buying that. When we checked into BWV is December, our room wasn't ready until 5:15. A friend of ours checked into AKV a few weeks ago and the room wasn't ready until 6:30 . So, despite the Disney protest, I think both the resorts and the parks will be affected as time goes on

This seems to be the new theme, rooms ready at the last possible minute instead of actually being a little bit early. Not only that but if they are going to have less employees you would think the training would be a little better.

I would say that in my experience over many years and visits that it is about a 50% chance that your room is done before 3 or after 3. Talking to Disney staff they will tell you the policy is that the target time for a room to be ready is 3:00. There is nothing written that says it will be done by or at 3:00. In my experience the rooms have been done closer to 5. It is not that the housekeepers are just sitting around and getting to your room late, they are usually trying to get into rooms to clean them that people left for the day late or asked for them to come back and clean later.

The latest we have been able to access our room was 6:30 p.m. on one occasion during spring break in March 2000. We were staying at the CR and it was an absolute mob scene. We had traveled to WDW by train for the first time from SE PA and we were really beat. By the time we got to our rooms we had eaten already and just basically crashed for the rest of the night. Not a great start to our trip.

Guess I've been lucky, at CBR & AKL, our room was ready when we arrived, late morining, or noonish. At WL our room wasn't ready at check-in. But we didn't expect it to be as we checked in at 8AM. But it was ready by 3:00. Our night at Pop, we didn't check in until almost midnight, so a non-issue there!

In January, we checked into BWV before 9:00 am and were able to go immediately to our room...ruined our day because now we knew we could go back after breakfast and have a nap! That's exactly what we did and blew two or three hours of park time.

I guess I've been really lucky at Pop and POFQ. Every time, so far, I've been able to get into my room before noon. (Not the case with any of the deluxes I've stayed at.) I better prep myself for a wait next time I go!

Often the deluxe resorts are much more full and don't have many rooms just sitting empty like the moderates or Value resorts.

It really is luck in regards to gettin right in your room.Look at it this way...
1. Everyone has a right to stay in the room right up to check out. By then it takes a bit for the housekeepers to get to all the rooms (Its a HARD job).
2. Its a big plus that you can leave your luggage at the resorts and find something to entertain yourself and your family. So why sweat it. Have fun you are on vacation.

Getting the room before 3 is more a factor of how many guests they've had in the hotel that are 1) checking out that morning, 2) have requested a late checkout, and 3) are total pigs and have extended the time the mousekeepers have needed to stay in a single room to clean it out.

I really think that Disney has been upfront about the layoffs -- in the long run, it wouldn't pay for them to fudge this stuff as so many people share info (including CMs and former CMs) that the "secret" wouldn't remain secret for long.

We've been very lucky the last two times at the GF. We had an 9:30 am arrival and found our Sugar Loaf room ready. The time prior was closer to 11am but the room was ready then as well. Oh well, it was just luck and I'm sure it will catch up with us...probably on our December visit.
We always pack a tote and plan for our room to not be ready until late afternoon so we're never dissapointed!

my sugar loaf room was not ready until a bit after 3. room at YC has never been ready before 3. room at BC not ready until about 4. POFQ ready at noon when i got there one time, the other times i have not arrived until about 5 and room was ready. at sports, the room was ready at 330 the first time and 415 the second time. contemporary, room was ready at 2 and we were upgraded to magic kingdom view without asking. i agree with what tikiman and eileen say. don't expect to get into your room before that 3 pm time, at least. but as they say, you can prepare ahead of time, leave your luggage with bell services and be off to the park or pool...yep, you are on vacation, try to enjoy, ok?
