| To Disney's credit, I have seen them clear the pool on several occasions for just such a reason. They treat it with a chemical then we are back swimming in half an hour or so. My guess is they shock treat the area affected, then when the chlorine residual goes back down to acceptable levels they let you back in. There are shock products that let you swim again in as little as 15 minutes. Brent

| I don't think it's anything to worry about. That's what chemicals are there for.

OMG!! I almost p'd my pants reading this Liz! Seriously, I have no worries about it at all Last year the resort pool was evacuated (no pun intended!) twice that I know of because there was more than pee in the pool The funny thing is, there was no one under the age of 12 or so in it at the time Like someone else posted, I think it's totally the media making a big deal out of something more common than most of us care to think about.

| so gross and rude, but all the chemicals in the pool (which are also harmful but not nasty in the same way) they totally "clean" the pee. ew.

| Like they said in the promos for Jaws 2, all those years ago.. "Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water..." Seriously, there are public health issues any time people come in contact with other people. It'd be easy to write an article about the risks of standing in a crowded line, or sharing a bus, or grasping handrails.... The truth is, the best we can do in this life is reduce risks to an "acceptable" level. It's never pleasant to be one of the few families whose vacation is affected by an illness picked up from fellow vacationers (in whatever way it happens), but it's something that can happen, just as it can happen back at home, at work, at school... and it's why our bodies have built-in immune systems - it's a necessary survival mechanism. The main thing is, I can't think of any incident when a Disney-operated pool was identified as the source of a major outbreak of an illness. The company has an admirable safety record (although nobody has a perfect safety record), and whatever procedures they use for pool safety, they seem to be far more than the bare minimum. Disney is in a particularly vulnerable position, because so many of its visitors consider it to be a place where the unhappier aspects of life won't intrude. And when unhappiness does intrude (as it must), we're likely to pay far more attention than we would if it happened elsewhere. It's human nature, of course.

| I swim twice a week at home and I'm sure that Disney has more stringent rules in place than my regular swimming pool.

| You know...if you think about all the things the media picks up on now and touts as a major public health hazard, and then realize that most of that stuff was everyday life for most of us as kids, you have to wonder if these "scare tactics" are meant to turn us into "sheeple," following the latest trend and never using our brains or the common sense God gave a goat. |

| You can't protect yourself from everything! Some of the methods that people use to "protect" themselves are causing more problems than they solve. The rampant use of antimicrobial products just leaves the meaner bacteria more room to thrive! Gross but true.....I see many cultures per week of MRSA(methicillin resistant Staph) when just a few years ago they were few and far between. As Dave said, as long as we use reasonable precautions, most of the risk is eliminated (no pun intended). Anyway, pee is sterile unless the owner has a UTI! ![]()

| EEWWWW!!! Now I'm glad I never swam in the pools! And no, I've never done that, even as a kid.
