Transportation Improvements?

I always thought that some Disney Hotels and parks can increase their transportation options. I have some ideas feel free to share yours.

Ideas

1#Animal Kingdom Lodge should have a water way going into the park like a ferry that has been seen with Epcot and Boardwalk/Beach Club/Yacht Club. So people of that resort could simply get through that way.

2#The Monorail system can be expanded to MGM, and Animal Kingdom and Downtown Disney. Also connect to Wilderness Lodge, Beach Club/Yacht Club, it couldn't fit in Boardwalk so guests from that resort can just cross over to Beach Club/Yacht Club for the monorail.

3# Disney could get the hotels to have their own buses and not share with other resorts.

4# The Monorail track circling Grand Floridian, Polynesian, and Contemporary can connect to the monorail going to Epcot instead of having to stop at the ticket center.

What ideas do you have per say.

All of these would be lovely but are too expensive to ever happen. The monorail estimates are over $1 million per mile. I'd settle for a bus system that actually works

I think the bus system works most of the time. Peak times, though, can be terribly crazy. I would settle for more buses on the routes and zero sharing between resorts. (Although I do the see the advantage of having places like YC/BC and POR/POFQ sharing as they are interconnected.)

I agree with Jim though...while the monorail options are very attractive, they are cost prohibitive in this economic climate...and perhaps in better times as well.

Although extending the monorail would be nice, I don't see it happening either.

I have stayed at resorts that share busses, POR & WL, but during peak times they don't, only during non-busy times, so I don't mind it.

The only horrible transportation time I had last trip was leaving MK, and it was an hour before EMH closing, waiting for the POR bus. Line ups were horrible, and we had to wait for 3 busses which did not come fast enough. But 1 night out of 9 isn't bad.

I don't see boat service coming to AKL as it's not on a waterway.

I do wonder why they they haven't built any more resorts along the path of the existing monorail lines...I realize putting in more monorails is not likely, but use the lines that are already there....? They def. have room for more resorts.

Monorail doesn't seem like a good idea. Lightening hit it while we were there and it took 4ever for them to fix it. I can see them adding more buses, but not much else. The whole idea of paying extra to stay on the monorail line is not having to share it with those coming from the T&TC. The reason why it's so pretty around the MK resorts is because they haven't shoved in a whole bunch of hotels in there and made it look like a cheap tourist spot. If I were to say what could help with the transportation.... that having covered areas with misting fans & benches at all bus stops would be a great improvement and wouldn't cost that much. I know that would make the waiting more tolerable.

Totally true - BUT - there are no resorts on the Epcot line, and plenty of room to build some. Check out a top view map of WDW, and you'll see the gaping green space in the center (quite lovely green space may I add) that could fit a resort or two if Disney was so inclined. Of course there is always something to be said for leaving green space undeveloped.

Personally, I think the the monorail is nice, but what really make a Deluxe resorts shine is the water frontage. If Disney put anything along the Epcot rail, there's no water.

I also agree with you about better waiting areas especially at the value resorts.

I think the resort bus stops do have fans. I seem to recall them at the resorts. But misting fans would be nice!!!
I don't know why they don't have covered bus stops at the values. That must be hard during the hot months, and inclement weather.

I guess we're easy to please - I think the Disney Transportation systems are amazing considering the number of guests they transport daily! Even now that we drive to WDW we still take the buses, monorails and boats. It's part of the whole Disney experience for us

It was horrible waiting at POP for the buses. Way Too Hot and many times we had to wait in the rain. I don't mind the wait but they could do something to make it easier during. Yes, I'm blonde, my husband is a red-head and none of us in my family tan...we burn, so this would be a major plus for us.

They're great ideas and I'm sure nearly everyone would love to see the monorail expanded, but I just cannot see it happening, not wiith the estimated cost of $1 million per mile of track. It is a shame, especially as Hong Kong and Tokyo Disney have had extensions / new monorails in recent years that are waaaay better than anything in the States, but as I say, I just can't see it happening at WDW anytime soon.

I am right there with you on this subject!!
Overall, Disney does a great job getting people where they want to go. All the transportation is part of the experience. And you meet the nicest people while riding!

I love the fact that we don't have to rent a car to get around WDW, not even to get from the airport. Yes, there have been a few times that I have grown impatient with the bus system, especially at SSR, but overall you can't beat how convenient they've made it to travel around "the world".

I've been very lucky with the transportation system at WDW. Plus I go with the mindset of leaving myself plenty of time to get where I'm going. That way there is no stress. If I'm running late, I take a cab. Kind of a vacation splurge.
