| SoG update/review We stayed at Shades of Green near the end of October so I'd thought I would post a review with some updates of what is happening at the resort. This was our 5th stay at SoG over the past 6 years. Firstly, it appears they are performing minor updates to the rooms. While we were there the bedspreads/comforters were being changed out to brand new ones (stripes instead of flowers), light fixtures and sofas were being changed also. And beds, our biggest complaint last time, seemed much better. No back problems even after 8 nights. There also seemed to be much less mauve color in the hallways and common areas. Don't know if it was just a change in decorations or if it was a wallpaper and carpet change. As usual everything was very clean and the employees and guests were friendly and respectful. The food service is another matter altogether. The steady decline in food quality continues. Evergreens (the restaurant by the Mickey shaped pool) is no more. Well it's still there but only for hot dogs, chips and drinks. It was empty - never saw anyone eat in there all week. It appears to be a permanent change as they were removing the kitchen equipment while we were there. They expanded the arcade that was there to include Chuck E Cheese type ticket games. Manginos, the Italian restaurant on the bottom floor, continues but is a shadow of its former self. The Italian items on the menu now number only about 6 and they are just the basics - nothing fancy (and probably come from the buffet next door). The other side of the menu is burgers, pizza, etc. that used to be on the Evergreen's menu. There is a walk-up window to get carry-out. I suppose this is supposed to the replace that service that used to be at Evergreens. They have also hung TV's in one room of Mangino's dining area. They were short of wait staff every time we visited. Everyone was complaining about the food situation - in the restaurants, by the pool and on the shuttle buses it was a common topic of conversation. We skipped the buffet because last year it was horrible and we just assumed it wasn't any better. For the 1st time we ate at 2 of the Polynesian restaurants, Ohana and Kona(?). Ohana is great for family dinners. All you can eat steak, pork, chicken and Shrimp grilled over an open fire. It was excellent if a bit rushed. The cafe restaurant around the corner from Ohana (Kona I think) was very good with a light menu of island inspired sandwiches, tacos, etc. Last edited by JonZ; 11-07-2009 at 01:16 PM.. |

| Your review is spot on with our experience's. We eat at Kona a couple of times during our stay. Too bad SOG can't figure out food.

| Thanks for the SOG review. DH and I have stayed at SOG many times and love it. Have not been this year, as we got a better deal this year through Disneys discounted rate for Military. Looking forward to our next stay at SOG.

| Thanks for the SOG review! It's nice to know they're doing updates. That's too bad about the restaurants, though. ), but we've never eaten there except for the breakfast buffet a few times.

| I was only there to help my mom get a park ticket in October, but it looked like a beautiful resort. Sounds like they're keeping up with the rooms . . . sorry they're not keeping up with dining options.
