Stay at a hotel you know and love or try something new? I'm thinking about staying at the Wilderness Lodge or the Polynesian for our next visit (not sure when yet) My dilemma is I know my kids will want to stay at AKL again. And I want to, too. BUT I also want to try out as many Disney resorts as possible. Would you go with old tried and true resort? Or try something new??

Re: Stay at a hotel you know and love or try something new? As much as I love some of the resorts I have stayed in before, I feel that you should try new ones too!! Disney World has so many great things to offer. You can always try a PS at the old hotel to remind you of the great times you had in the past. Funchick

Re: Stay at a hotel you know and love or try something new? hhmmmm - a toughie.....I can only say that my thoughts on this are mixed. Once upon a time.......(as the story goes) we were big fans of Dixie Landings (a.k.a. POR), Always thought that that resort was going to always be the one we would stay at. Then along came AKL and we decided to venture out and do something new. Having done that, we now don't want to go anywhere else. Having said that, I wouldn't mind any resort at WDW, just as long as I could be down there. However, if given a choice where to stay, it's AKL. Confused? so am I.

Re: Stay at a hotel you know and love or try something new? What a great dilemma to have though, eh? As much as I adore the AKL, we will continue to make the rounds to a few more resorts before doing a repeat most likely - I've still not stayed at BC/YC or the Boardwalk Inn so those are up next. And I want to go back to the Grand Floridian again for our 15th in 2 years. Signed, Variety is the spice of life!

Re: Stay at a hotel you know and love or try something new? I've loved every WDW resort when we were there. But, I always looked forward to trying out something new. BUT - that was before I stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge. I miss that hotel so much it's hard to look at the pictures sometimes. No WAY could I be at WDW without staying there. At least next time. After that I may be ready to start adventuring again, but that's my home now.

Re: Stay at a hotel you know and love or try something new? There are two ways to look at this. First, I think that, given the ages of your children, that they would be more inclined to like the Wilderness Lodge if you had to choose between the Polynesian or WL. Now, having said that, I would visit one more time the place that brings a smile to their faces. If they LOVE Animal Kingdom Lodge, then take them there. Just to see them smile at an old familiar friend will warm your heart. Simple things, like a 7- and 4-year old enjoying AKL- it's a no brainer. They are only young for such a short time. I'm sure if you are like most of us, you will eventually get to the Polynesian or WL anyway and maybe not that far away in time. Go with a nice place like AKL and be proud of your children for having such good taste!!

Re: Stay at a hotel you know and love or try something new? How long are you going for? Can you split your stay between two resorts. Say start at the one you haven't stayed at before and finish up at AKL?

Re: Stay at a hotel you know and love or try something new? This one is a tough one. We are members of the Disney Vacation Club at Boardwalk Villas, and I LOVE staying there. But I got it in my head that it would be fun to try all the DVC resorts, so on our last trip we stayed at OKW for a couple of nights. We really didn't enjoy it very much, compared to what we were used to at BWV. So, I learned my lesson and plan to stick to what I know I like in the future... But, if finances or something else played a role in the decision, I'd be happy to stay anywhere on property.

Re: Stay at a hotel you know and love or try something new? I had this huge long resort wish list before we took our July trip and stayed at the Poly. I knew it would be great but I didn't realize how much I would fall in love with that place. As much as I do want to branch out, I worry that it won't be as enjoyable so I am trying to convince DH to switch- new one first, then the Poly. It's a tough call. Maybe try switching if you have enough time.

Re: Stay at a hotel you know and love or try something new? We're doing both during our next visit, staying at the BCV, our home resort for most of our vacation, but spending four nights at AKL. I think we'll probably do that again in the future, so we get to sample as many different Disney resorts as possible.

Re: Stay at a hotel you know and love or try something new? We are a little divided on this in our family. My mother loves the BWV and doesn't want to stay anywhere else. My brother bought a timeshare (not DVC) and has opportunities to stay inside the park as well as offsite, so he doesn't care where he stays, as long as it is the timeshare, and my father and I want to stay at different Home away from home resorts and deluxe resorts every time. Mostly my brother wins since it is the most economical! ![]()

Re: Stay at a hotel you know and love or try something new? We were lucky enough to resort hop last trip. I had stayed at BC before, but wanted to also try something new, so we started at WL. I think we'd try to do that again, usually ending up at some point at the BC. I'd also like to try the Poly (although I've been as a child), AKL, CR, GF (assuming I win the lottery .

Re: Stay at a hotel you know and love or try something new? As someone mentioned above, could you split the trip? We do that if we are staying 7 days or more. We did a AKL/Poly split on one vacation. Our philosophy of WDW stays is to try a new place each time (if we can). It makes for a very different vacation every trip. We've been fortunate to get good deals on our stays and have stayed at ASMu, CBR, WL, AKL, Poly, BWI and GF. And soon we'll be at the YC. Just a few more places to go! -HiddenMickey

Re: Stay at a hotel you know and love or try something new? [ QUOTE ] As much as I adore the AKL, we will continue to make the rounds to a few more resorts before doing a repeat most likely [/ QUOTE ] Totally agree. Even though we think AKL is the best of all the resorts, we'll keep making the rounds too. The thing I love about trying new resorts is that you also get to try out a whole new area of WDW. At AKL we tried Jiko and did BB for the first time cause it was so easy from there. Spent more time at AK the park. At WL, we tried Artist Point, and Narcoosees cause the access to GF was so easy. We also took an MK fireworks cruise since we could do it right off our own resort dock. Used the boat to get to MK. At YC, we checked out the Boardwalk. Boated to MGM. Spent an afternoon walking between Stormalong Bay and Epcot to do a ride or two. More meals in Epcot since we were right next door. Burgers at Beaches and Cream. Hung around in Epcot long after closing, cause we were a 5 minute walk home. So, I guess we kinda save things till we're staying in a particular area where it's the easiest (most relaxing) to do em. That way every trip it's like a whole new world. Next up...probly GF

Re: Stay at a hotel you know and love or try something new? I had intentions of staying at different Disney hotels but fell in love with Beach & Yacht Club area so thats where we've always stayed. Now we are Beach Club Villa DVC members so we'll be there. I don't really thing you can mess up too bad at any of the resorts but i'm partial!
