Polynesian Longhouses I was looking at the map of the Polynesian in my PassPorter and noticed that at least one of the longhouses I remember staying in does not have the same name it use to. I remember staying in the Bora Bora building, but I don't see any buildings named Bora Bora on the map. Have names changed over the years, or I am remembering incorrectly? Lori

Re: Polynesian Longhouses Hi.. I have never stayed there but I can help you with your question. Doing a search on the Polynesian one day I came across this website. www.geocities.com/wdw51502001/poly1.html It may not be active anymore. This was a long time ago, but I printed the copy. They had a list of the Old Names of the longhouses and what they were changed too. Here it is: Bali Hai = Tonga Tahiti = Aotearoa Somoa = Tuvalu Tonga = Hawaii Hawaii = Somoa Bora Bora = Niue Maori = Rarotonga Oahu = Tokelau Moorea = Tahiti Pago Pago = Rapa Nui Hope that helps

Re: Polynesian Longhouses [ QUOTE ] Bali Hai = Tonga Tahiti = Aotearoa Somoa = Tuvalu Tonga = Hawaii Hawaii = Somoa Bora Bora = Niue Maori = Rarotonga Oahu = Tokelau Moorea = Tahiti Pago Pago = Rapa Nui [/ QUOTE ] When I looked at the above list, I noticed something was missing...the building I stayed in, which was Fidji, and I also noticed one name that I was not familiar with at all..so I just got out my old Poly resort map from 1985....sure enough as I thought, the other building missing from the list was Fidji (this building jetted out onto the water and had the water on both sides of it, one side being the marina..then the Samoa building came at the end). Also, on the list above, it states an old building being called Maori, but on my resort map it is called Maui (which is the building to the right of the Great Ceremonial House and faces directly out to the monorail track and the parking lot), so I'm not certain if that was a mistake or typo or perhaps it went through more than one name change. All the other names of the older buildings appear to be what's on my old resort map. My map also shows the room numbers. I assume those have not changed, but maybe they have as well (????) Oh, and by the way, I even found my Poly resort map from 1984, which only showed the original 9 buildings...Pago Pago and Moorea weren't on the map as they weren't added to the resort until the following year. ![]()

Re: Polynesian Longhouses Limabeanmom....do you remember the Tangaroa Terrace restaurant and the Papeete Bay Veranda? The food was so yummy (and excellent quality!) I've been hearing that the Poly isn't like it used to be. When I last saw it on the outside, it definitely looked a bit rundown...plants/trees/shrubs not as well-kept like it used to be, as if they let it go. Others that I know who have actually been there lately (who have been there years ago as well) say the same thing. They said they took away the Hawaiian music piped in throughout the grounds and the torches are no longer lit each night? Is that true? If it is, that's too bad.

Re: Polynesian Longhouses We stayed at the Poly in 96 and we absolutely loved it there! But much of what we loved was the true atmosphere of the entire resort! I hope what you have heard is not true about the music and the torches not being lit! Those things just made the resort special! Why would they discontinue such unique and special things like that? Keep us posted as to what you find out!

[/ QUOTE ] Lynne - I sure do remember those restaurants! The Tangaroa Terrace had such good food! I believe that they now serve quite a different menu. We use to get American cuisine, but I believe they now serve south pacific dishes. We haven't eaten there since they changed the restaurant. Papeete Bay Varanda is now Ohana's, right? Great place! I have such wonderful memories of the Polynesian - I hope that they still pipe in the music and light the torches. I keep on saying that someday I will stay there again, but it is just so expensive now. Before Eisner came along, Disney stockholders use to get great deals on rooms. The prices were unbelievable! 40% offf from August throught to spring. I love to visit the Polynesian, but it certainly hasn't looked fabulous anytime I have seen it in the past few years. They have been renovating, from what I understand. It's just not the same as it use to be, for me at least. Lori |

Re: Polynesian Longhouses Hey everyone! We stayed at the Poly in May and it was fabulous! (although I don't remember Hawaiian music piped in or torches at night -- that would be cool!) Still it was beautiful, I thought the landscaping was in great shape, the rooms were HUGE and my daughters loved the pools.
