Room Discounts

We are planning our next Disney trip for Feb5-12 2005. We will be purchasing annual passes as we plan to go again the following year. I have noticed that everyone suggests making a room only reservation now and then taking advantage of the discounts when they come out. If we make a reservation at AKL now, do we call back when the discount codes come out in Nov or Dec to get that rate or are you automatically given that rate at check in when you show your AP? I have also noticed where it was mentioned that there are limited numbers of these discounted rooms. How does all of that play out?? Thanks

Re: Room Discounts

Your best bet is to make a reservation now so that you do not get shut out of the chance to stay at your preferred resort.

Then, either use a travel agent (many great ones are recommended by people on these boards) to update your reservation when the AP rates come out or you can watch http://www.mousesavers.com to see when the rates come out and make the call to CRO yourself.

Good luck!

Re: Room Discounts

They will not automatically give you the discount. You either need to watch for the discount codes yourself or use a travel agent who is knowledgable about Disney.

Re: Room Discounts

There are a limited number of AP discount rooms available. You MUST call and ask for the AP rate - either by making a new reservation or sometimes you can change an existing reservation.

As codes are a much-watched item, you have to know that they're coming and call immediately when they are released if you're hoping for a specific resort / view. As there's generally information posted on many boards, the number of discounted rooms can go QUICKLY!

In order to avoid the stress (and the early morning call to CRO), many use a travel agent who knows Disney - Grand Getaways Travel is my agency of choice. You can make your room-only reservation now (putting down one-night's deposit) and they will monitor the reservation for you. There is no additional charge for their service and they will apply any available codes as soon as they are available. It truly takes the stress out of trying to snag an AP rate - I've got better things to worry about and gladly leave that in their VERY capable hands. They'll even make priority seatings for you!

Re: Room Discounts

Definitely make the reservation now so you have the chance to use the codes when they come out.

Re: Room Discounts

Your best bet is to always make the reservation first and then you can always modify it. Ibooked a trip for my husband in April and have since modified it numerous times using various discount codes.

Re: Room Discounts

Funny that you should ask for this is just what I did! I just got off the phone with a room only booking at Poly and will now keep my eyes peeled for the discounts. For some reason I did not get an email sent to me with a discount and even Disney doesnt want to hand them out no matter how much I whine that everyone on the planet except for me and a few others didnt get the email! But that's another story! Book now, watch for codes and call and modify.
