What would you do? Hotel dilemna. New update 9/1 I have TWO rooms at Pop Century booked for my December vacation. The girls were looking forward to having their own room. BUT with the new discount codes that are out, we can upgrade to ONE Savannah view room at AKL for $364 more. What would you do? Bear in mind, my girls cannot sleep together, and they will not guarantee a bunkbed room. I have only stayed at value (ASM) and HAFH (cabins in FW) so except for photos, I have no idea how to judge the additonal amenities of a deluxe hotel. So of course I am turning to you, the Passporter experts. Thanks AGAIN for your advice and assistance, it is so appreciated!

Re: What would you do? Hotel dilemna. This is a tough one! How old are your girls? Are they into animals alot or is it more important for them to have their own space? (If they're teens or tweens, I KNOW what the answer will be for that one! )A deluxe is beautiful, no doubt about it, but it depends on what will make you and your girls happy. Can you present both options to them and let them choose? Also, will you be spending alot of time at your resort, or mostly in the parks? If you are just using the room to sleep, it's not as important as if you are really going to use the amenities at the resort. Whichever way you go, December is beautiful at the World!!!

Re: What would you do? Hotel dilemna. Dilemma, dilemma! Well, AKL's room are bigger than Pop, so that's one plus! The rooms have a double sink, so there's another plus! The beds are queen sized (Pop's are only full)! Another plus. You said they won't sleep together?? Can you and your DH split up and sleep one on one with them? You could always go for a deluxe savannah room (sleeps 5) but that's big bucks! Did you look into a deluxe poolview room? That might be a little cheaper, and then one could sleep on the sofabed! Otherwise, there's so much more to do at AKL. All the different viewing areas for the animals, it's like a vacation within a vacation! The pool is fantastic! As well as the eateries. You still have the conveniece of counter service, but have two great sit down restaurants as well (Boma and Jiko)! The lobby is quite outstanding, there are rocking chairs outside around a fire pit where stories are told nightly, and there's night vision goggles to view the animals at night! We've never had a problem with the transportation, and hardly ever had a full bus! If you can swing the money, I'd definitely go for AKL, and hopefully the girls can sleep together just this once! If not, I guess you could always call housekeeping to see if they could bring a cot! Good luck

| Re: What would you do? Hotel dilemna. What are the ages of your girls? I have 4 myself and know what you mean about the sleeping thing...sometimes even just getting along is a chore! I would guess it would depend on them, and your budget. If they really have an issue, you might do better with PC, also figuring on how much time you'll actually spend at the hotel. 2 rooms means 2 bathrooms and 2 tv's. But I've heard a lot of good things about the deluxe's, just usually out of our budget here. Maybe you could make a list of the pro's and con's and see what would work the best for you? Good Luck! | Re: What would you do? Hotel dilemna. WL also offers bunkbeds too! Out of all the times that we have gone to Disney with our requests, only once did I not get what I requested (room with daybed) BUT after nicely putting my foot down about a daybed and also adding in that if they cant, could they upgrade me, I got a room with a daybed! I wasnt a snot, but I also knew that my two kids would not survive the week sleeping with each other! |

Re: What would you do? Hotel dilemna. I would stick with the two rooms at PC, only because (a)your girls will not sleep together, and (b)you will have that extra bathroom for getting ready in the morning. That is a big plus! Additionally, you can use that $275 for souveniers, a park hopper, or a few nice meals. I though the transportation at Pop was great when I stayed there. Very quick and efficient.

Re: What would you do? Hotel dilemna. We had the same exact dilemma last year (two adults, two teenaged girls) and ended up going with AKL. We got the bunkbeds, so it worked out great. I would have loved the extra room and another bathroom, but we loveloveloved AKL. It really is a hotel experience like none other. Consider the other stuff, too - like will you use the pool much? Do you need a sit down restaurant? That's what tipped the scale (get it? tipped the scale? the restaurant? ) for us. Good luck, it's a great dilemma to have.

Re: What would you do? Hotel dilemna. Hi, Poohmaine! Glad to hear you have this choice to consider. The suggestion you were given to ask the girls what they want to do to is a good one, but what do YOU and your husband want to do? Since this trip celebrates your anniversary, maybe you should splurge. We are packing a twin size air mattress in our luggage in the chance that our boys don't want to share a double bed once we get there. This will give us another option to avoid potential problems. Any chance you could do this, in case you don't get bunkbeds? Let us know what you decide.

Re: What would you do? Hotel dilemna. Updated 8/31 We didn't want to ask the girls, because we wanted to surprise them with it. But my husband and I couldn't decide, so we asked them, "Would you rather have two rooms in a value resort or one room in a deluxe resort, where you may have to share a bed?" My oldest said, "I don't care, I am just so happy to be going to DisneyWorld!" She was the one we thought would not share a bed! The other said, "my own bed," she's the one who we thought wouldn't mind . . . ARRRGH! Anyone else want to chime in before we make our decision? ![]()

Re: What would you do? Hotel dilemna. Updated 8/31 ![]() It's a tough decision...one we've had to make many times. We decide between 2 rooms POR-R (our favorite moderate) and 1 room Polynesian (our favorite deluxe). What decides for us? Not the kids - Even if our teens are not in the mood to sleep together, one will sleep on the floor (and enjoys doing so). We've done this with only blankets/pillow but also with a twin air mattress. What normally decides is money and privacy (you catch my drift ). If I had to make your decision...I would opt for AKL only because I've never stayed there before and a few hundred dollars more for a Savannah view is a great price!

Re: What would you do? Hotel dilemna. Updated 8/31 I'd say one unhappy camper could ruin a trip...on the other hand she could change her mind with the right room! If you plan on going again... ever...then do the 2 rooms and plan for AKL another time (like when they're gone or more grown up!). If this is it, buy ear plugs and go to AKL. Good luck with your decision

Re: What would you do? Hotel dilemna. Updated 8/31 While they don't guarantee a bunkbed room - they usually do give them - technically even non-smoking isn't always guaranteed. I would go to AKL for sure!

Re: What would you do? Hotel dilemna. Updated 8/31 If you don't already have the discounted room reserved, do so as soon as possible, even if you are still deciding. I was trying to decide between the exact same thing last spring - two rooms at Pop Century or a standard room at AKL (the savannah rooms were not discounted enough for my budget). I finally decided to go with AKL, but I was too late - all the discounted rooms were gone for my dates. So the decision was made for me by debating too long. However, two rooms worked very well and we liked Pop Century. Karen
