AKL Secrets...

Does anyone have any "Secrets" about the AKL which aren't in print, or widely known? I could read this board for days and find new things, but I do have to work sometime.
33 days to go!

Re: AKL Secrets...

Don't know if this is a 'secret' but you can get the famed Boma zebra domes at the counter-service place, The Mara. They come three to a box with two of the chocolate marquis too. I believe the cost is about $5 for the box of treats. You can also get some of the Boma soups here too.

Re: AKL Secrets...

There are 3 Hidden Mickey's in Jiko. One is easy and the others are a little more difficult. You need to be by the window to see them all. (There may be 4, but I can remember 3 well...)
Jiko is great! I make sure to get there every trip, even when staying at another resort. The chocolate purse desserts are incredible!

We also have a tradition of rubbing the mask near the front door every time we leave, for good luck.

Re: AKL Secrets...

Well, these aren't secrets but they are some of my favorite little activities at AKL:
The nightly story-telling by the firepit
The nightly African cultural presentations
The nightly Night Vision animal viewing sessions

Re: AKL Secrets...

I am not sure if this applies only to AKL or not, but a cast member at the Concierge lounge told me that some of the hidden mickey's are moved around every couple months so that it is more challanging for people to find them. AKL has a clue list for all they're hidden mickey's and you get a t-shirt if you get all of them. Ask the bell desk or the Concierge for the list. Needless to say, I only found a couple...no T shirt for me !

If you like the music you hear in the lobby and by the pool, ask a cm about it. They have a list of the artists, songs and cd's in a notebook at the checkout in the store. They'll give you the list if you ask!

Re: AKL Secrets...

At the bottom of the stairs outside Boma is a bulletin board with listings of various activities going on at the AKL, as well as if they are limited to guests of the AKL and if there is a fee for them.

Re: AKL Secrets...

I don't think it is a secret, more of a little know fact, but if you are up late at night, take a walk around the lobby.

I couldn't sleep our first night there and at 1:30 AM found myself out exploring the resort. The view of the lobby from the fifth floor was breathtaking. It was almost empty, short of a few CM's and I was able to get some wonderful pictures.

Also, I discovered at that late hour, there was a lot of activity from the animals on the savanah. Much more than I thought there would be as I thought early morning was the time to watch.

Re: AKL Secrets...

Another fan here of the storytelling and the night viewing. That was one of our favorite parts of the lodge. And just the atmosphere itself in the lobby was amazing.
