Transportation concern at WL

We are staying at the Wilderness Lodge for the first time this August (surprise trip for my hubby) and I have been reading that the transportation to and from there can be quite unpredicatble. I have made two breakfast priority seatings - one at AK for 8:30 and one at the Grand Flo for 8:00 am. Does anyone know what time the busses and boats start running and how long does it take to get to AK? Wondering if we should rent a car for this trip; we have always relied on Disney transportation with no problems before.

Re: Transportation concern at WL

I'm a little concerned too. I've always been a monorail brat and when we stay at WL in Sept. we'll be pretty much relying on buses.

With that said, in the past I have had good luck with buses. They usually start running around 7 AM and are pretty dependable.

Re: Transportation concern at WL

Looking in the Passporter it says travel to MK (Grand Flor. is a monorail ride away) takes 8 mins. by boat. There is a direct bus to AK and it takes 20 mins. The key to relying on the transportation system at Disney is to relax and allow enough time. Sure, it would probably be faster to jump in a car and drive yourself there, but using their means of transportation can be very relaxing. Make the best of it! Part of your adventure can be the boat ride, monorail, or bus ride! When you check in, I'd ask a CM how much time you should allow to make it for your PS's. They can give you a better idea of how long it will take you to get from one place to another. I also wouldn't worry about whether there will be transportation early enough or not. Remember, Disney realizes that there are many people in your shoes trying to get from one end of their facilities to another. If they don't make it convenient enough, people will stop staying onsite! I'm sure there will be transportation for you! Again, get the whole "scoop" at check-in!!! The important thing to remember is that you are on vacation....so.....relaxxxxxx!!!!

Re: Transportation concern at WL

We stayed at WL this past September and loved it. This is just one experience but, before we left I too was concerned about the transportation. And in the end, we actually found it to be great.

For the Magic Kingdom there's a direct boat that's about a 6 or 7 minute ride. We never waited for it more than 10 minutes. And besides, you're sitting in the sunshine on a dock watching the boats criss cross Bay Lake. Man, I wish I was waiting for that thing right now

For Epcot you have a direct bus both there and back. As with the boat, we never waited more than 10 minutes for a bus anywhere the entire trip. The other option for Epcot is to take the 3 or 4 minute boat ride (not the MK boat) over to the Contemporary and catch the Monorail.

For MGM and AK you share bus service with GF and Poly. WL is the 1st stop for pickup on the way there and the 1st stop for drop off on the way back.

Could be our expectations of WL transportation were so low we couldn't help but be impressed. In any case though, we came away pleasantly surprised with the ease of getting around.

I'll second mattjs' post. We thought the transportation at WL was just fine. No long waits, no hassles, very relaxing. -HiddenMickey
