AKL Bunk Bed Rooms At the risk of being flamed (and I'm sure I will) what is the likelihood of getting 6 into one of the deluxe bunk bed rooms at AKL? . My son has a fear of "falling" and won't sleep on a bed. He only sleeps on the floor. Last June we stayed at POR when it was just DW, the 3 kids, and I and had to opt for the trundle bed, which was never used, as my son would not sleep on it (he actually prefers the floor). I'd hate to pay the extra cost for a 1-bedroom suite, when we won't need the extra bed space, when we go to AKL in May, this time with my mother. Please, I know why there are limits on guest occupancy, so I don’t need a lecture. I just want to know if it is possible.

Re: AKL Bunk Bed Rooms Aside from the issues around 6 people using one bathroom, do you really think you'd all fit on one room? Sounds pretty cramped to me. I wouldn't try it just for safety and comfort sake. Maybe it would be better to get two connecting rooms? I don't know if that would be less expensive than the 1 bedroom suite or not but it might be worth looking into.

Re: AKL Bunk Bed Rooms I still think you'd be pushing it. Plus, you'd probably have to leave someone's name off the reservation in order to book it. Then you run the risk of being found out and I would think they could kick you out for violating their occupancy limits.

Re: AKL Bunk Bed Rooms The ALK rooms are pretty small. We had planned two rooms for the five of us-3 teen kids- but are middle son ended up staying home. CM asked if we'd like to go down to one deluxe room and I declined because we need the bathrooms. We had two connecting rooms and my thought was I was glad we didn't have 5. If we all go again I'd definately get two deluxe rooms for 5. I can't imagine 6 in one room. There's not a lot of open floor space. You'll be stepping on one another. There will also be little room for all your "stuff." You may be able to do it for a night, I wouldn't recommend more.

Re: AKL Bunk Bed Rooms Is one of the children under three? That way you probably wouldn't be breaking the fire code rules which regulate the number of people. Also, you wouldn't have to buy a sixth ticket either. If you have tickets on your reservation or purchase them with your room card, there might be software which looks for just that sort of discrepancy. I guess it depends on how big all the people are. We're a family of four - two children ages 9 and 11 - and we stayed at AKL in a bunkbed room this December. If most of your children are young, it might work but I'm betting that you'll just feel really jammed in there. The rooms are realistically not that much bigger than POR's rooms. Not really - I looked around for actual square footage and I couldn't find any. I guess it depends on your tolerances, all in all. Enjoy your trip! Brighid

Re: AKL Bunk Bed Rooms JRJohn, Go for it! We had a delux savannah room last year and we were fine with 4 adults and one child. The day bed is lower than the Queen and I think it is even lower than the bottom bunk. So your son might like that. The table by the sliding glass door, next to the Queen bed does take up a lot of space. There is plenty of room between the bunk bed and the wall to the bathroom.....well plenty of room for a child. Also room between the bunk bed and the Queen bed. I think you will be fine you have plenty of options. We are going in May also, I hope the AP rates are available? Good Luck, Catey

Re: AKL Bunk Bed Rooms [ QUOTE ] Is one of the children under three? That way you probably wouldn't be breaking the fire code rules which regulate the number of people. [/ QUOTE ] Ummm.... Room occupancy regulations are not like Disney's ticket or buffet restaurant policies. The occupancy laws are really looking to match the number of beds with the number of guests (regardless of the guests' sizes and ages), and to size hallways and fire escapes adequately for the number of people who have to use them in an emergency. Most Disney resorts allow an extra child under 3 if the child is in a (Disney-supplied) crib. That way, the actual number of people in the room shows up on the room registration (in case of emergency, the innkeeper needs to know if everyone has been rescued or otherwise accounted for).

Re: AKL Bunk Bed Rooms How about getting a cabin at Fort Wilderness for a family of your size? I definitely would not put six in a AKL room (even a deluxe) they are not that big. You really should look into getting two rooms that connect. -HiddenMickey

Re: AKL Bunk Bed Rooms How about just asking or writing to AKL directly? Maybe a note from a physician, who can explain that your child has a legitimate phobia, will suffice. This way, if they allow all of you in the deluxe room, you will rest easy knowing that AKL is aware of it, and okay with your child sleeping on the floor.

Re: AKL Bunk Bed Rooms I agree with hidden mickey. The cabin at Ft Wilderness has a bedroom with a double bed and bunk beds then they have the murphy bed in the living room along with the sofa. You might be more comfortable there.

Re: AKL Bunk Bed Rooms One thing to keep in mind is that bunk beds are only a request. You might end up with 2 queen beds and a daybed. Which will give you less floor space since the queen bed will take up more than the bunk bed. If you think you can live with that result, then the choice is yours. I personally have not been in the AKL deluxe rooms, so I can't say whether there will be enough room or not. (And as stated before, what is too crowded for one family, is OK for another.) Karen
