Honeymoon - What\'s the most romantic place to stay?

We're going on our Honeymoon in September 2001. We've booked a reservation at Port Orleans - Riverside (DXL) but I'm worried it won't be romantic enough. The pictures of the rooms make it look...I don't know....different than what I expected. We'll be there for 6 nights and I want it to be wonderful. We've booked the Discovery Package. Can you please help with any info? Can you make suggestions about the BEST things we should do. I feel so overwhelmed trying to plan our itinerary. I don't want us to miss ANYTHING! Thanks SO much!!

Re: Honeymoon - What\'s the most romantic place to stay?

Hi Rebecca, and welcome to the best message board in cyberspace!

I'm a huge fan of Port Orleans - Riverside. I've never stayed there as a 'couple', but always felt it would be very romantic. My fiance and I are taking our vacation in 23 days and will be staying there, so I'll let you know how romantic it is!

With regard to the rooms, I've always found them quite comfortable, spacious, and the decor is antebellum southern style, which I love. Remember, you won't be spending that much time in the room anyway (Ooops! forgot this is your honeymoon, so may be you will!), so if money is a factor, I think you will be very happy there.

Are you thinking of changing to a Deluxe resort? When I dream of my disney honeymoon (to which DF says 'NO WAY'!), I think of staying in WL, Boardwalk, or Grand Floridian.

Good luck with the decision!

Newlyweds can find romance anywhere .
I've read many trip reports that mention the nice quiet and romantic walks thru Riverside. Are you planning on staying in the rustic Alligator Bayou section or the more stately Mansions? -HiddenMickey

Re: Honeymoon - What\'s the most romantic place to stay?

Steve,

Wow! Your comments really struck a cord with me. Thank you! While we are going in August, I'm already sulking because DF doesn't want to do our honeymoon in WDW. Thank you so much for what you told Rebecca. You've changed my outlook completely! You reminded me how its more important that we enjoy eachother, and we can do that anywhere. And, Disney will still be there when I come back!

Boy, this Disney Addiction gets the best of me sometimes.

Sorry for rambling, just wanted to let you know that you touched someone's life today!

Re: Honeymoon - What\'s the most romantic place to stay?

Aurora18....what a nice post! And Dadtojb....great advice! Yes indeed, the location is never as important as the one you share it with when it comes to the honeymoon! When I got married my parents let us use their timeshare week anywhere we wanted. We tried and tried to get a place at a beach anywhere near the Caribbean or Florida and never could....so we ended up in Flagstaff Arizona so we could see the Grand Canyon and Sedona and a bit of that area. We had such a good time! And while we've been to the beach a lot (not the islands though) we have not had a chance to go out west again yet....so it remains a special trip to this day. Be creative when you plan your honeymoon. -HiddenMickey

Re: Honeymoon - What\'s the most romantic place to stay?

HiddenMickey,

Are you kidding me? That is EXACTLY where Matt wants to go! LOL! I'm kind of into it too, but he wants to go to like 5 places in 7 days, and I'm exhausted thinking about it!!! hehe Seriously, I think it would be fun. I flew over the Grand Canyon in May and it was gorgeous. I know that we would have a lovely time there.

I sometimes feel like this board sends me angels from heaven to keep me on the right track!

I strongly believe that when someone makes you think, touches your life, makes a difference, or is just plain kind, you should let them know. This world needs a little more of the Disney magic and a little less of hurting others.

Thanks, again for gently steering me in the right direction!

Aurora18 - thanks for your very kind words - you made my day with your setiments and I, too, am a firm believer that if someone touches you in some way to let them know. Life is way too short!

Congrats on your upcoming wedding! I also wish you two the best!

Let us know how your trip goes to Dixie Landings...I mean Port Orleans...you will love it!

Re: Honeymoon - What\'s the most romantic place to stay?

Rebecca, first off - best wishes to you both! My wife and I stayed at the Grand Floridan on our honeymoon and it was an incredibly romatic resort. But we've also been to Port Orleans Riverside when it was know as Dixie Landings and we really felt it had a "Deluxe feel" without the expense of a Deluxe resort, and also very romantic. I think it is one of the best choices for a honeymoon and it is our very favorite of all the moderates. If you request a room in the Mansion area, it will surely be as romantic as a stay at the Grand Floridan would be - and if you want to indulge, perhaps you could treat one yourselves to a dinner at Victoria and Albert's at GF - it's an incredible (and expensive) experience.

My best advice - it's your honeymoon - relax and take time out for yourselves to enjoy each other. You will NEVER, EVER have this time back again, and although we had so much fun hitting the parks and clubs, one of our most memorable days was spending the day at the resort by the pool just relaxing. Do don't be overwhelmed - just do what you all want to do - Disney will always be there to go back to if you miss anything - that's the great part about it! God Bless you both!

Re: Honeymoon - What\'s the most romantic place to stay?

Oh My Aurora18....that is so spooky. OK--to be very off-topic now... We flew into Phoenix after our wedding and drove by rental car to our timeshare at Flagstaff Fairfield. It was very nice and cozy with a fireplace and a huge jacuzzi tub. The first day we drove out to the big Meteor Crater....very neat. The next day we took a tour bus with 3 other couples (through the resort) to the Grand Canyon, which turned out great because we learned a lot from the guide and ate buffalo chili for lunch at a place we never would have tried. The next day we drove to a nearby Canyon (can't remember the name) and explored the indian ruins around it. The next day we drove to through Oak Creek Canyon (loved it) to Sedona and ate a nice lunch and looked around. We wish we'd had enough time to take a jeep tour. The next day we checked out a place with Indian ruins in the cliffs (very famous but I can't remember the name) and saw an Imax movie. Next day, we explored Flagstaff and Northern Arizon Univ. (and tried to go skiing--but there wasn't enough snow. The last day we drove up to Joshua (a ghost town) and stopped along the way if we saw interesting things. We had a lot of driving but saw a real variety of things and really enjoyed it. If you guys decide to do something like it, I'm sure you'll cherish the experience. -HiddenMickey (PS if you have questions about any of this---remember to ask me at our Cindy's breakfast meeting ).

Re: Honeymoon - What\'s the most romantic place to stay?

Thanks for all the information, HiddenMickey! We've been thinking that we'd only spend a few days, but Gosh, you've sure given me something to push for to stay the whole week! It sounds like you saw some wonderful things and I know now that I will love it.

We thought about taking the overnight mule trip, but when Matt realized that the showers weren't 'private' but shared, he decided may be not (which was a good thing!).

You can bet on talking more at breakfast. I'm so excited to meet you in person! And, we are getting very excited about our trip!

P.S. to Rebecca -- Sorry for 'stealing' your thread!

Re: Honeymoon - What\'s the most romantic place to stay?

Hello Everyone! I just wanted to thank all of you for the wonderful advice. We decided to stay at Riverside in Alligator Bayou and we even added an extra day to our Honeymoon.

Steve, you struck a cord with all of us. Your note was very touching. You're right, this will be the ONLY time we'll be able to have this time together and I want to make the most out of every second we'll have. I can't wait to get married and I'm so excited about the 7 days I get alone with Joe I'm about to bust. We've both been saying we can't wait for our honeymoon so we can be selfish and REALLY ENJOY each other. I look forward to all of it!

Thanks again for replying. Have a GREAT day!!

Rebecca
