SWAN/DOLPHIN VS. PORT ORLEANS

HELP! WE ARE IN A DILEMMA ABOUT WHERE TO STAY. WE HAVE RESERVATIONS AT PORT ORLEANS.
TODAY WE JUST DISCOVERED A VERY REASONABLE RATE FOR TEACHERS AT THE DOLPHIN/SWAN. PORT ORLEANS OFFERS GREAT THEMING AND A RELAXING
ATMOSPHERE. THE DOLPHIN/SWAN SEEMS SUPER CONVENIENT AND ELEGANT. WE'VE ONLY STAYED AT ALL-STAR BEFORE. ANY ADVICE/SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Hi!

I'd stay at the Swan/Dolphin. You can walk to Epcot and MGM, or take a boat. There are tons of restaurants in both hotels, and you are also close enough where you can go to the Yacht Club, Beach Club, and Boardwalk to eat too!

Re: SWAN/DOLPHIN VS. PORT ORLEANS

I've stayed at both. I liked the Dolphin, but remember it isn't a true Disney resort. We noticed many things that didn't have the true Disney look and feel. The Swan/Dolphin is a little more of a premium resort with room service, lots of restaurants and a cafetaria. There are club level rooms that offer limited morning and afternoon food and beverages--not a meal, but nice appetizers. If your room is located in the right spot you can see the fireworks from Epcot and Fantasmic. Swan paddle boats, nice play areas for kids, beautiful resorts close to Beach/Yacht and Boardwalk. Boat ride to Epcot is very convient too.

However, Port Orleans gives you the boat ride on the Susgaluga River over to Downtown Disney. The Port Orleans resorts are nice and the theming of Riverside is my absolute favorite moderate resort. Boatrights is a nice restaurant and the two food courts are good as far as food courts go--the pecan pie at the foodcourt at Riverside is to die for!!

Hope that helps!

Re: SWAN/DOLPHIN VS. PORT ORLEANS

We had a similar problem for August, but decided to have a little of both- we booked two days at each hotel! We are staying at the dolphin for the teacher discount and going to MGM and Epcot those days. Then we transfer to port orleans (which we LOVE) to do rivercountry, Downtown disney, and magic kingdom! P. S. we just got back from a quick trip to the swan(not typical disney trip. longgggg story, but hotel was very nice, not as disney as P.O. riverside but nice in other ways like the fireworks and boardwalk in walking distance. glad to share more details if you want!!)

My wife and I are both teachers. We just returned from the Swan. The rate can't be beat. I think the convenience of the Swan beats that of Port Orleans. You have many more options for transportation. Boats are available into Epcot and MGM. There are also nice walkways to both. To get to the Magic Kingdom or Animal Kingdom, we took the bus. They run very frequently. We have also taken bus transportation from park to park once we were out for the day. The Swan has HBO for late night TV viewing. And there are many dining options at the Swan and Dolphin. Our favorites would have to be Palio (Swan - Italian) and Shula's (Dolphin - Upscale Steakhouse). Have a great vacation. Enjoy! School starts before you know it!!! I've also stayed at both. In my opinion, the Swan/Dolphin can't be beat. Great rates, nice rooms, convenient to two parks, and many restaurants. For the price I think it's the best deal in the World. That said, I absolutely LOVE Port Orleans. However, for the price, the Swan/Dolphin are too good to pass up, even without the Disney soap!

I am curious about this discount for teachers at the Swan/Dolphin. I am a school nurse and wonder if I would qualify. Where do you get this information from?

Hi Mickey Lover!
If you go right to the Swan/Dolphin website, they give you a number to call for the discount rates. I have heard that they also have a special rate for nurses, so, I think that, either way, you qualify!!
Good Luck!
