Hotel Switching/Using Codes

OK, here's our situation. In May we made ressies for Contemporary for our daughter's family and ourselves. We were going to take our son and his wife on a cruise this winter, but last night they informed us that if we didn't mind they would prefer to go to Disneyworld and make it a family vacation. WOW!!! That is wonderful. We had just been talking cruise for so long we didn't think they'd give that up for Disney.

Well, I digress!

I see now that by using a code we can get Grand Floridian rooms for the same price I was going to pay at the Contemporary.

First, have any of you switched reservations after having them and then used a code?

Second, would you switch to GF if you had the chance?

Third, should I make new ressies at GF before I cancel contemporary?

Fourth, does anyone know if GF has a suite of rooms that will accomadate 3 couples and a child? Similar to a 2 Bedroom Villa at the Boardwalk or Wilderness Lodge. Or should we book 3 standard rooms? Do any connect?

By the way, WL sounds like a great place, too. This time though we want to be in the monorail area.

Thanks for all the help! This board is Great!

Re: Hotel Switching/Using Codes

I think that the difficulty level of switching rooms/hotels and using new codes depends on how exactaly you made the reservations in the first place.

I joined the Disney Club so that I could get a 20% off room rate at the contemporary, which means that I went through the Travel Company to make my resies.

This week when I called because I found a code that would give me 40% off, for the same room. I was told that because that code was offered through CRO, I would have to cancel my reservations, have my credit card reimbursed (the room is totally paid for BTW) and then make a completely new reservation, with a whole new deposit. For some people that might not be a whole lot of trouble, but for us it's a HUGE pain in the butt. I ended up staying with the 20% discount.

It's my understanding though that if you're going through the same department (CRO or DTC) to make your changes, the hassle is minimal to none.

Re: Hotel Switching/Using Codes

I just went through something similar with the GF. We had a ressie at the WL over Christmas, thru DTC with the Disney Club rate. I called CRO just to check if they had AP rates, and they did. I could get a better room at the WL for 50% less! Or I could get a lagoon view at the GF for $800 less than my orginal WL ressie. It was a hard choice, but I picked the later.

This is how I did it (and what my advice to you what be): First I put the lower, better ressie on hold with CRO at the new rate (they hold for 14 days - something they don't advertise), then I called the DTC and cancelled my old ressie. I did not confirm my new ressie until I was sure I could cancel the old one, but it was safe b/c it was on hold. The old ressie cancelled w/ no problem, so I called CRO back and booked the new room.

To answer your other questions, the GF is great. Definately do it! Also, they have both suites and adjoining rooms. Do a price comparison to see which is best. Standard GF rroms sleep 5.

Enjoy!
