Refund for Refrigerator

Here's the story: A few days before we left for WDW, I sent myself a package containing OJ, fruit cups, and cereal to Port Orleans Riverside c/o my name. The package was supposed to be delivered the Monday after we arrived on Sunday and was to be our breakfast/snack each of the five days we stayed (if we chose not to buy breakfast). I rented the fridge for $10/day to keep the juice and fruit cold. Each day we were at Riverside, one of us stopped by the front desk to ask if the package had arrived. Each day we were told no and that when it did, we would get a voicemail message (and a red light on the phone) to let us know. By the 3rd or 4th day, they were getting a little testy about our asking. Checkout day arrives, I figure UPS couldn't deliver for some reason and sent it back home. I arrived home--no package. I used the UPS website to track the package with the tracking number on the receipt. Turns out the package had been delivered to Riverside 2 days BEFORE we arrived and had been there all the time! I've already paid the bill (including $50 for a fridge I didn't use). Should I ask for a refund of the $50 (since it was their fault, not mine, that the fridge was useless?)

I say it can't hurt to ask. After all, they had the package and didn't even know it. Give it a try, if they say no all your out is the cost of a phone call, if they refund you money, put it in the Disney fund for the next trip

Re: Refund for Refrigerator

That happened to me (but not at Disney). Wives got together to send hubbies to Daytona 500 for their 40th birthdays and I sent a muffin basket (thinking the guys could use them for breakfast or snacks). When hubby called, I asked if they liked my surprise basket. No muffins. He called the desk. No muffins. Next day - no muffins. I called the muffin company and they were able to tell me who signed for it.

I called the front desk from home and first they denied that anyone by that name worked there, then they said they misunderstood the last name and they would look again. Ten minutes later, my husband called to thank me for the thoughtful muffin basket that suddenly turned up.

If it were me (and I was mad enough) I'd ask for the $50 and reimbursment for all the food the desk clerk CM's were enjoying.

Re: Refund for Refrigerator

You're darn tootin'I'd request SOMETHING from Disney. Do you have record that Disney received your package?? If so, I would write a letter, sending all documentation, and telling them that you want to be reimbursed for the frig AND the entire cost of the package! They blew it...they should pay!

Re: Refund for Refrigerator

I'm with Kecall. It was their responsibility to make sure you got it and obviously someone there did not do his/her job. Get UPS to send you a copy of the receipt signature and enclose that with a letter.

Re: Refund for Refrigerator

On your shipping label did you put down your arrival date? Since your package arrived c/o your resort to your name, but you hadn't arrived yet....they probably had no idea what to do with it (because you would not have been listed as a guest yet on the computers), unless you had your arrival date on it. NOW, that said, the staff should have known where to look for packages that may have already arrived.

Staff in my office often send themselves things via UPS to their hotel before they get there. We have learned that you must put your arrival date on the package as well as your name.

I would definitely talk to the hotel manager about this and see if they offer you any compensation. At least they will know that they need to do a better job of handling packages arriving at the resort for future guests. -HiddenMickey

Re: Refund for Refrigerator

Well, I contacted the Billing Dept. at Riverside, and they are going to refund the money I paid for the refrigerator for the week. They sent the package back Federal Express, and I got it today. I'm still very disappointed about the whole episode. If we had been able to use these breakfast items instead of stopping to buy and eat breakfast every day, we would have saved time and money and been able to do more touring. Well, live and learn, I guess.
