Port Orleans French Quarter Ok, so I have only experienced the value resorts right. Well, I decided to see what kind of savings I can get through YMJ and asked for a quote on a the said resort. Now, I need people who have stayed at POFQ to give me some advice, good room locations, etc. and overall recommendations and the likes. My mom wants a nice resort a step up from the values and I really love the overall theme of POFQ. Absolutely beautiful. Oh yea, and what is the approx. location of this resort in comparison to DTD, MGM, Epcot, MK, etc. is it near any of them?

Re: Port Orleans French Quarter Stayed at POFQ in Oct '04 and really enjoyed it. The rooms were fine nothing extravagant. The food court at this resort was surprisingly really good we felt. My husband and I really enjoyed leaving the parks in the afternoon to come back for a swim in the pool. I was surprised by the number of families at this resort as it seems to me they try to market it otherwise. But hey it's DISNEY! You are closest to DTD while staying at this resort. And the boatride over there is a real treat. The only somewhat annoying thing about this resort is the bus route. Once they pick up at POFQ you then have to travel on to like 4 or 5 additional stops at the Riverside resort. Also when leaving the parks and DTD it seems like POFQ has the fewest buses (one night we waited over 1 hour)and since it seems like the fewest buses come we also ended up with the biggest lines. So that was kind of annoying. Also Epcot didn't seem that far away either from the resort. Overall I would say POFQ is a great value for what you pay.

Re: Port Orleans French Quarter You will love POFQ. It is a lovely compact resort. THe boat ride to DTD is delightful. I always ask for building 4 or 5 close to food court. No place is a long walk. The buses to pick up at POR also, but FQ is the first stop so you always get on. If they fill up they will skip the rest of the POR stops. I have never had a particularly long wait for a bus from PO, but anything can happen. WDW usually does a very good job of keeping the buses running and not letting lines and people wait too long. The bus ride to each of the parks is about 10-15 min., except AK which is longer. It has become my resort of choice. I actually prefer mods to deluxes, because I like the food courts. The step up from the values is worth it in my opinion, but then I tend to spend more time at the resort than many.

[/ QUOTE ] I stayed at POFQ in November, and I really only found this to be an issue at MK. I stayed at every park until closing, and both times for MK I waited about half an hour for a bus, but at the other parks, there was no more than maybe a ten or fifteen minute wait, tops. [ QUOTE ] The food court at this resort was surprisingly really good we felt. [/ QUOTE ] Do not miss trying the beignets, and try to have dinner there to try the jumbalaya (it's not available at lunch). |

Re: Port Orleans French Quarter We just got back from POFQ on 2/14. I had never stayed there before and now I don't think I wold stay anywhere else. We were in building #5, Room 5142. Everything was so nice and close and even though we always had to make those pesky POR bus stops. We always had a seat because we were the first ones on and first ones off on the way back. I don't think I would stay at POR after seeing how large and spread out it is compared to POFQ. The CMs were great too. My son woke up one morning with a fever and i had forgotten meds and thermometer (great Mom huh?!), the store didn't open until 8 and it was 5:30am. The manager came and opened the store for me to get the necessar supplies. I was very grateful. Eventually my son had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance and they handled this in a very professional calm manner. Even gave us a 3PM late checkout the next day free of charge in case we needed it. I was very happy there. The only negative is that it seemed to take forever to get food in the food court, part of it were people were still trying to figure out this dining plan thing. Enjoy your trip I can't wait to go back!!

Re: Port Orleans French Quarter I stayed there a couple of years ago. It was just me and my son and we had an absolute blast! The resort was nice and compact, which was important because he was only two at the time. We enjoyed wandering between the two resorts. The pool was also great. Have fun choosing!

Re: Port Orleans French Quarter I stayed at POFQ from December 8-15, 2004 (see my signature!) in room 3144 and loved it. The smaller, southern section of the Port Orleans complex, it is very compact and, as the rooms were remodeled throught the second half of 2003 and the first quarter of 2004, has almost the feel of a deluxe. I was around the corner from the food court and reservation desk. The boat ride to DTD Marketplace was very nice, scenic, and took less than 20 minutes. The pool, Doubloon Lagoon, is terrific, but guests have access to all seven pools at both FQ and Riverside. I didn't have more than a ten- or fifteen-minute wait at the bus stops. Jim

Re: Port Orleans French Quarter We stayed at POFQ in November and loved it. All the buildings are close to either the bus stop or the food court, since it is a relatively small area. That is nice, because I can't imagine being far from the bus stop. We were up and at'em each morning and at the bus stop by 7 a.m. to get to the parks for Early Magic Hour. The resort is close to Downtown Disney, and you can get there via a boat ride that is really nice and you pass some lovely scenery you wouldn't see otherwise. The beignets are a great deal at the food court, but we didn't eat there for anything else but those and coffee/juice for breakfast. I loved the scenery - very relaxing after a busy day at the parks. I hope you like it!

Re: Port Orleans French Quarter We stayed there last December as well & stayed in building 3, which is basically right next to the main building (store/food court/lobby). It was nicely quiet (at least on the third floor) & the rooms seemed a bit bigger than the values (having 2 sinks is a plus!). We could see the fireworks from Illuminations and the boat ride to DTD is lovely - tho we only went at night. I was a little disappointed with the food court - VERY slow and not as many "grab & go" options as Pop or the All Stars. However, the rooms do have refrigerators, so if you make a grocery stop on the way in, you're set for breakfast or lunch, depending on what you buy.

Re: Port Orleans French Quarter We recently returned from POR and also stayed at POFQ last year. We loved them both. As for a room recommendation -- we were in building 6 -- which some would say is a ways back, although nothing is too far in this resort. we really enjoyed the relaxing walk back to our room along the river from the bus stop, food court, or pool area. We did ask for a river view - since we got a king bed, there was no extra charge - while we didn't necessarily "use" the view from our room, we really enjoyed it as we went to/from our room. -- and we were on a back corner, so we didn't have traffic by our door/window - so we did open up the curtains and enjoy the view a couple of times. The compactness of this resort caused us to "use" the resort (especially the pool area) more than we had/have at POR or CSR. Walking near the hot tub/pool coming back from the parks, you could see how busy it was -- and this is the only resort we have experienced where the hot tub wasn't full every time we went by. Transportation -- worked really slick from here -- during peak transportation times (park open/close, etc.) POFQ often had a bus of it's own at MK -- and for morning pick ups one bus just did POFQ and the first POR stop. The evening stops POFQ was "usually" the first dropped off - I would say the transportation was excellent, and I can't remember any trip taking more that 15 minutes with stops. The only "bad" experience we had here was the room delivered pizza -- YUCK! Stay away from that, and I'm sure you'll love your stay. Let me know if you have any other questions

Re: Port Orleans French Quarter We stayed at POFQ in December of 2004 and loved it!! We normally always stay at Deluxe Resorts so this was our first time staying in a Moderate and we loved it so much that we are staying there again for 2 days in July when we go back to use our off-site timeshare ![]() We loved the theming and atmosphere of this resort. It is so compact and easy to walk to anyplace within the resort. We were in building 2, room 2232. We were right on the corner, overlooking the river and boat dock. The thing I loved about our room was being a corner room we had 2 sets of windows instead of 1 so that made the room feel larger. Next time we go we will not pay extra for the water-view - it was nice, but a standard room & view is just fine at this resort. We enjoyed the food court, although during peak meal times they are a little slow. The pool was fabulous and we loved having a fridge in our room. We did not use Disney transportation as we had a rental car with us so I cannot comment on the bus service at POFQ. I'm sure you will love this resort! Have fun!

Re: Port Orleans French Quarter To make a comment on the buses: we stayed at POFQ in December 02 and then at PORiverside in November 04. I definitely preferred to be at POFQ for the buses. We always got on and usually had a seat. If the bus was full after POFQ's pickup, or after the first depot at PORiverside, we just headed straight out. In November, while waiting at the South (and, I think, last) depot at Riverside, we did see buses go blowing past us several times. My guess is that they were full and we would've been SOL if we were trying to get to that park fast. I love POFQ! (After the AKL, it's my favorite resort.) The pool alone is worth the cost of the room. But the beignets are a close second and the size of the resort makes it ideal. Have a great trip! Eileen

Re: Port Orleans French Quarter We stayed at POFQ in May of 04, and we loved it! I gave the family a choice to try another moderate resort this year, and they looked at me like I was crazy. So POFQ in May of 05 it is. This resort is smaller, and quieter than most others. We stayed in the builing the farthest from the food court, but we didn't mind the stroll at all. In May we had not trouble with the busses. We took the boat to DTD, very nice. My only complaint is we waited a while for a boat, they are always full with people from Riverside. Our room was nice, and the kids loved the pool. We did like the Riverside food court a little better because it was bigger, but we really didn't have many delays. ![]()

| These boards are helping me out something crazy!! I read in the PPG 2007 (sorry I have my new one pre-ord. for next trip) that you can get a roll away/trundle to fit 5 people in a room at POFQ, has anyone taken advantage of this???
