Laptop at DW resort I was wondering if anyone has had experience with taking a laptop to DW? I am taking mine in November and I am concerned about locking it up with a kensington cable lock(is there a place to run the cable around). I am not expecting a built in cable lock but rather a desk or something I can run the cable around that cannot be moved or carried off. What about going online? Anyone ever try this while there? We are staying at ASM.

Re: Laptop at DW resort Some resorts have tables that make it easy to use a cable lock, others don't. At All-Stars you'll be better off tucking the computer in the room's safe (if it'll fit), or storing it somewhere inconspicuous. As you might guess, Jennifer and I are heavy laptop users when we're at WDW. All the phones have data ports and we rarely have trouble getting online, but you'll have to pay 75 cents per local call to your online service.

Re: Laptop at DW resort Planning on bringing my boyfriend's laptop (& my boyfriend) this year as well. I was wondering what you meant by the "kensington cable lock". Is this like a bicycle lock for the laptop?

Re: Laptop at DW resort I almost always bring a laptop when I travel and, if possible, I store in the safe. Otherwise, as Dave said, I just tuck away somewhere (like the bottom of my suitcase or in the bottom of a drawer. Maybe not an ideal option, but I've never had a problem.

| Re: Laptop at DW resort Yes Diskitty, it is something like a bicycle lock for a laptop. Your laptop should have a oval or rectangle shaped hole on the side somewhere. The cable usually has a loop on one side and a special kinda lock one the other. It uses a special key. looks kinda like a rental locker key. You run the cable around a stationary object and through the loop and attach the lock to the laptop. There is also a cable lock by Defcon that has a built in combination lock and a motion sensor, it is LOUD! If you cut the cable, it will go off too. Hope this answers your questions. As far as the rates, here is Dave's Quote "As you might guess, Jennifer and I are heavy laptop users when we're at WDW. All the phones have data ports and we rarely have trouble getting online, but you'll have to pay 75 cents per local call to your online service." | Re: Laptop at DW resort Just returned from WDW all star sports.. Brought along my laptop and was told at the desk there would be a 55% surcharge added on to each dial up I made. It discouraged me from going online while there. I did however upload scads of digital pics to the hard drive so I could reuse my memory card again and again each day! We all looked at the days photos on the laptop screen each day and it was a blast! Some day I will get the internet -on -the -road -thing down! |

Re: Laptop at DW resort I guess i have that same question, "What is the connection speed like at Disney World? As for the cost, if it is a surcharge added, is it added to the local call charge? That would be around $1.15 to connect to the internet. I would pay that to be able to send pics or email to family back home . I probably would not get on it everyday anyways. [ 05-21-2002, 02:03 PM: Message edited by: lilsweepr ]

Re: Laptop at DW resort Is that 55% a long-distance surcharge? Sounds like it might be. If you use a local phone # to connect, wouldn't it just be the 75 cent charge?
