AP rates and WL

Since we're thinking about a stay at WL next May, is it hard to get an AP rate on a standard room there? I know I've heard other people can't get AP rates at the other resorts and was wondering if it hard to get these rates. We've never used APs before, and since room-only rates for the general have disappeared, we thought we would go this route instead. Thanks for any tips you might have!

Re: AP rates and WL

The AP room-only rates are not difficult if you check everyday at Mousesavers.com, or Allearsnet.com, or use a travel agent to do the looking for you. You can snag a room if you are quick, no problem!

Re: AP rates and WL

I have to respectfully disagree. While doing those things will improve your odds of getting an AP rate, many people do get shut out of an AP rate. We have ressies for WL in December. In discussing what type of room to reserve, my TA with YMJ stated that she was able to get standard AP rooms for only a portion of her WL reservations when the most recent codes came out. She stated that she had to convert the remainder to a woods view reservations, which is a little more costly. Last December, we were hoping for an AP at AKL but weren't able to get one. However, we did have some flexibility with our dates and got AP rates for the next week. With that in mind, I would encourage you to plan with the expectation that you may NOT get the AP rate and hopefully you'll be pleasantly surprised!

ALSO, your best agent is YOU! I've found TA sometimes know less than I do. Yes, it all depends on the agent. I believe in the old fashioned I've changed reservations several times because I called Disney, asked about a deal, AP, lowest available rate & have been pleasantly surprised. I just finding a better rate!Goodluck & don't give up WL have great rates available.
Also, check Expedia. We found AKL for Christmas -$139 standard room & WL was the same rate.
We were thrilled!

Check regularly...you'll find what you want!

Re: AP rates and WL

I would assume that maybe the difficulty in getting an AP-room rate is the fact that there are not that many available in the first place. Just a hunch.

I have never had a problem getting an AP rate at WL - but then I have always gone with a Disney certified TA.

Re: AP rates and WL

When the last AP rates went into effect, Mousesavers didn't post the info until late in the day. A safer bet is to check and see when the rates for your vacation have historically been announced, and then start calling WDW yourself each morning several days in advance of that time frame. Thanks to this we were able to get AP rates on a Standard room. By the time a relative had called a few hours later in the day, the Standard AP rates were gone (they got a great AP rate on a Woods View room, though!).

Re: AP rates and WL

Thanks everyone for your advice and suggestions. I was thinking that maybe the first week of May would be slower and I could snag the standard AP room rate. Such decisions! I really wouldn't mind the couple extra bucks for the woods view room if the standard rate was unavailable. It sure beats paying full price!
