All Star Music or Pop?

All-Star Music or Pop? Which one is better and why? And also, my family and I have never stayed at a value resort and I'm a bit nervous. I love the big icons and everything outside and I think it would add to the disney feeling. But what I'm worried about is the rooms, I'm afraid that after staying at deluxes and moderates I will be dissappointed in the size, not having a double sink and things of that nature. So, does anyone have any advice? Thanks!

Re: All Star Music or Pop?

I am in the same boat, but i have stayed in the values but not since moving up to Mods/deluxes. I am going in September a very last minute decision and very budget trip but I will stay value as long as i get to go to Disney. I think the rooms are a bit smaller but since all i do is sleep in it size i guess can be dealt with. I just wish i could win the lotto and just buy into DVC...lol

If anyone could give more help I would like to know for sure as well, its been a very long time since I stayed in a value.

Re: All Star Music or Pop?

I stay mostly at Values and do just fine. I do travel mostly Solo though, with this last trip being with my niece and nephew at All Star. My niece and nephew are 14 and 16 and we managed just fine. I have never stayed in a Deluxe, I will be staying in a Deluxe for the first time in Sept.
I have stayed in Mods before and though the rooms are a little bit smaller in the values, I did not really notice it. To me the room is just a place to sleep, overall I am not in the room all that much. And when I am, I am laying in bed reading or watching TV. Don't need much room for that lol.

Re: All Star Music or Pop?

We have stayed at both and I definitely prefer Pop. It's newer and I think it has a much more Disney feel to it. We have never stayed at a Moderate or Deluxe so I can't really comment on the difference in the size of the rooms. At the Values it is tight with two double beds, but if you don't really spend all that much time in the room I don't think it really matters. Especially not for the price!

Re: All Star Music or Pop?

You will be disappointed. We stayed at the AKL two years ago and just last week we stayed at AS Music. The rooms are very small, and the resort was so spread out. I walked forever to get to my car, buses, etc. They don't give you the shampoos and soaps. There is a dispenser in the shower. The bathroom had hair in the corners and the caulking on the shower walls were stained with mildew. There were many teenagers running around and the bus system was terrible. We shared a bus with Sports.

I would stay at a value resort if that was all I could afford, but if you can upgrade to even a moderate, I would. There is nothing special about the values, they are like a La Quinta. I have stayed at all the All Stars.

Good luck!

Re: All Star Music or Pop?

I would have to say All Star. My DD (age 17) and I just came back from 2 weeks at WDW. We usually stay at All Stars Music or Sports. but decided to try Pop this time. What a mistake. It was very crowed and the food court is the same size as the All Stars, but there are about 1,000 more rooms in the Pop resort. The busses seem to run better at All Stars specially at night when the parks are open late. Each All Star has its own bus and the lines seeem to go faster. One night the line to get into the Pop bus line for the bus was half way down the Magic Kingdom bus area. After just 2 nights my DD asked if we could move to All Stars and leave Pop. We didn't but vowed never to stay there again. I also think that the food court selections are much better at All Stars too. Maybe it was just the summer crowds that got us down, but it will be All Stars for us from now on.

Re: All Star Music or Pop?

I have stayed at Music about 4 times, Sports twice, and Pop once.

Comparing Music directly to Pop:

*Pop is newer, cleaner, and has brighter colors and cooler icons on the buildings.
*Pop does not share busses, as Music does.
*Pop is more centrally located, so bus trips to MGM, Epcot, and DD are shorter. Trips to AK and MK are a little longer.
*Pop has real soaps, not dispensers.
*The beds at Pop are bricks. Music's beds are much more comfortable.
*The food court at Pop has a similar menu to Music, but the quality is sub-par. Music has much better food and slightly better service.
*The gift shop at Music is not connnected to the food court, so you don't have to walk through one to get to the other.
*Service in teh Music gift shop is much better than the one at Pop. Also, the storage room for packages delivered to the resort from the parks is behind the counter at Music, but across the building at Pop. At Pop it once took 30 minutes to get my package.
*Parking at Music is world better. The lots are huge and there are more rooms located close to the lots at Music than there are at Pop.
*Even though Music is more remote than Pop, driving yourself wipes out that advantage, because Music is at the end of Buena Vista Blvd, the main east-west road at WDW. Drive times to Epcot, MGM, both water parks, and DD are all 10 minutes or less, because they all have entrances on Buena Vista Blvd; AK is also less than 10 mins because it is so close, and MK is only about 12-15 minutes.
*Music is less crowded than Pop and has more buildings far away from Melody Hall, making it much quieter and more peaceful.

Overall, I like Music best of all the Values.

Re: All Star Music or Pop?

I have stayed at both resorts and I really liked them both. I think you are great with either one. Although I liked ASMU, I will be staying at POP again this trip. I could see the fireworks at Epcot from my room. I also really enjoyed the staff (the staff has been great everywhere I have stayed though).

Re: All Star Music or Pop?

We stayed at POP four our first value resort. We were wondering if we would be disappointed, but we were so pleasantly surprised. It was a very fun, upbeat and colorful resort. We took alot of really fun pictures. If you go expecting deluxe services and size at a value resort, than of course you will be disappointed. We really enjoyed POP. Good luck deciding and have a great trip.

Re: All Star Music or Pop?

I would say Pop b/c it's newer and esp. b/c it has its own bus. And I do not think you will be disappointed. We went from POR to ASMu last year and it was fine. Have fun planning.

Re: All Star Music or Pop?

I have only stayed at Pop so I can't help with the comparisons. I really enjoyed my stay and was very pleased with pretty much everything. It may be a change from what you are used to but keep an open mind and you should still have fun.

Re: All Star Music or Pop?

Thanks to everyone! Your advice has been extremely helpful! Just to let you know we decided to do a split stay we got a deal on WL. But we still wanted to see if we liked POP and wanted to stay there on future trips so we are staying 2 nights at POP and then 4 at WL! Thanks So Much!

Re: All Star Music or Pop?

WE have stayed at ALL STARS and loved it, but I would choose POP CENTURY because they don't share buses with anyone.

Re: All Star Music or Pop?

Having stayed at both, I would definitely choose Pop over the All Stars. Don't worry....there is nothing wrong with the value hotels! Honestly (and many would disagree), I would rather stay at Pop Century than at a moderate. Even though we usually stay at busy times of the year, the Pop Century buses and food court seemed to run efficiently, and I cannot say the same for Port Orleans Riverside.

Re: All Star Music or Pop?

We only stay at value resorts and I love them all. You are in WDW and no other hotel in the world can compare to any Disney resort. Have fun and let us know what you think of Pop. I will be staying there in Dec.
