Back home from the Wilderness Lodge!

We just came back last night....four nights at the lodge. We have stayed at the Polynesian and the Contemporary and this is, by far, our favorite place! There is something quite majestic about it. It was a wonderful trip. We would be more than thrilled to stay there again! Any questions from those about to go?

By the way, thanks to all of you who have provided me information for this trip. I do not post very often, but I learn alot by reading all of your posts. Thanks again!

Re: Back home from the Wilderness Lodge!

Isn't the WL so overwhelmingly huge?? I mean the lobby........it's just WOW!!! I have visited, but never stayed........yet but we will eventually stay at all the DVC homes!!! There is just something about it that is so wonderful. Makes you feel really tiny incomparison to that fireplace!

Did you have fun??? Silly question!

Re: Back home from the Wilderness Lodge!

We, too, just got back from the Wilderness Lodge, and we've decided that it's our favorite, so far, of all the WDW resorts. Yes, the lobby is huge; it leaves you with the feeling that it's not crowded. (I hate crowds.) We also enjoyed the convenience. With a 7yo, we spend a lot of time at the Magic Kingdom, which is just a boat ride away. No monorail, and I've been developing an aversion to the monorail (too crowded, and too much time spent on the feet.) And, once you get back, you're there: no walking from the bus stop for forever to get to your room. The snack bar is down the elevator, not four buildings away. And I loved the music they had playing: lots of Copeland.

I'll admit, most of my comparisons are to the All-Star, which is a Value compared to the Wilderness Lodge Deluxe, but we loved it. Next time we go, I'm campaigning to return there.

Re: Back home from the Wilderness Lodge!

Michelle - We are going in May, so I'm trying to get up to speed on the WL. What type of room did you have? Room number? We were looking at a standard room, but I'd love to know locations to request. Do you have young kids and did they enjoy the pool? We will be going with DD (4) and DS (1). Did you have any problems with transportation? I've heard people complaining about wait times for buses. Glad to hear you had a great time. Post pictures if you have any, we'd love to see them.

Re: Back home from the Wilderness Lodge!

Colexi's mom---

We had made a reservation for a standard room, however, when we checked in the cast member upgraded us to a courtyard view with no additional cost! We were in room 4165. Honestly, the next time I stay there, I will definitely ask for the courtyard view. We really enjoyed the view it provided. We could watch the electric water pageant from our balcony each night. It was so magical.

I will tell you that I thought our room was a bit too long of a walk from roaring forks. I would ask for something in the north wing. I have heard that mentioned by several other people and I believe it is good advice.

The pool there is alot of fun. I enjoyed roaring forks for lunches and drinks. I could not get over how quiet the hotel was. So nice. As for transportation, we used the boat whenever we were going to magic kingdom. We never waited more than 5 minutes. It was very nice. As for the buses, we seemed to be lucky. The bus seemed to arrive a few minutes after we reached the terminal each time. I really do not enjoy the buses, but I did not find it aggravating. I agree that you have to wait for the monorail, as well. So, it is really only 6 of one, 1/2 dozen of the other. Know what I mean?

I hope you enjoy your trip. I really loved that place. Let me know if you need any other info!

Re: Back home from the Wilderness Lodge!

I just want to second Michelle's suggestion to try for the north wing. We had booked a standard room and also were upgraded to courtyard upon arrival. The first room they gave us was in the south wing, but with a 5 and 7 YO I felt that would be a lot of walking, so I politely asked if they had anything in the north wing. The CM was very nice and found another courtyard room in the north wing for us, and it was great. It was a short walk to the elevator to Roaring Fork and a short walk to the stairs to the pool and the path to the boat dock.

We didn't have any trouble with the transportation, though we mostly used the boat. We prefer taking the car to busses, but the few times we did use the busses we had very short waits.

Have fun!

Re: Back home from the Wilderness Lodge!

I'm thinking we were in the south wing, but it wasn't bad at all (and we tire easily!) to get around. It was just a matter of a short walk to the elevator, cross the lobby and down the ramp to Roaring Forks. As far as transportation, it couldn't have been better. We never had much of a wait, the longest being the night we left Epcot just at the start of Illuminations, when we waited bout 15 minutes for a bus. Guess they never expected anyone to leave right at that time!! Hope you enjoy every minute of your stay - I know we did.

Re: Back home from the Wilderness Lodge!

Michelle, you said you've stayed at the Poly. How does the slide at the WL pool compare with the slide in the volcano pool? The kids loved the volcano pool but we were thinking of trying the WL this time around.

Re: Back home from the Wilderness Lodge!

Aunt Frannie:

My daughter and husband (my second child) LOVED the poly volcano pool slide. The WL does have a slide, but my three year old daughter referred to it as a "baby slide" when comparing it to the Poly slide. It was not as impressive. But, as a whole, the resort is!
