How much do deluxe resorts authorize your credit card for?

Excuse my second post in a row --

I have read so many conflicing posts on other WDW boards. My question is:

When you check into a Deluxe resort, GF for example, if your hotel, air, park pass package is paid for in advance, how much does the hotel authorize your credit card for in order to have room charging priviledges?

I have read posts that say they only authorize the card for $1 to make sure it is a good card and others that say they authorize it for $1500.

Any help from anyone who actually knows the correct answer would be most helpful!!!

I'm pretty sure it is $1500 at the deluxe resorts. It is actually a line of credit. Once your room account hits the top limit, they charge it to you credit card and you LoC starts all over.

Yes, what Don posted has been our experience as well. I believe you can also get a daily printing of whatever you've charged to your room card as well to check for errors.

When we stayed at POLY and WL last July, it was 1500. Once we spent that (which was too easy to do!), they authorized on our cc another 1500.

They put a hold on your card for $1500, but do not post any actual charges until you hit the $1500, or check out.

Re: How much do deluxe resorts authorize your credit card for?

It's $1500 for deluxe resorts, $1000 for moderate resorts and I believe $500 for the All Stars. The only problem we had last time was that they didn't tell us we'd hit our $1500 limit until after the event and had already charged our card. Previously, they told us we had hit it and they would charge it later in the day, meaning if there were any inaccuracies, you had the chance to check and correct them first.

Re: How much do deluxe resorts authorize your credit card for?

Thanks for the great information. I guess what I really need to know is if they actually put an AUTHORIZATION through on your card when they check you in. I don't have a large amount available on my card. I've read posts on other boards that say they only authorize it for $1 and then charge the card when you reach the $1,500 mark.

Any info on this would be appreciated!

By the way....Welcome to the Boards Jaylee.

I have always been under the assumption that they put a "hold" on your account for whatever amount you authorize. You don't have to authorize them to give you charging privledges at their set amount....if $1500 is too much, ask to have $1000 set aside, for example. That way they know you have the funds available to cover what you expect to purchase. They just don't charge your card until you check-out or beforehand if you tell them to. -HiddenMickey

Re: How much do deluxe resorts authorize your credit card for?

No large hold or charge is placed on the card at time of check-in so you should be all set. In fact, last trip we actually put our debt card down against room charges and had no problems whatsoever. No charges were made to the account untill we reached our limit. At which point you pay it off and the limit is reset.

Re: How much do deluxe resorts authorize your credit card for?

On our last stay at OKW they authorized our key for $1500. Then every night after we returned for the parks we would go to the desk pay it off with cash and our credit card was never charged and we didn't have to carry cash around the parks. It worked out really nice.

Re: How much do deluxe resorts authorize your credit card for?

You don'thave to have to let them authorize any amount if you choose not to charge to your room. That's what we did last summer. They said fine. We did pay our room in advance in cash. But they had no problem with us doing that and not setting up the room key charge account.

Re: How much do deluxe resorts authorize your credit card for?

tinkerbee-this is a wonderful idea. I never would have thought about paying in cash each night. My experience with the charging priviledges has also been great. However at the CBR, I didn't get a daily printout of the charges.
