Bunk Beds at WL What's your experience with bunk bed rooms at Wilderness Lodge? Are they "dark" as I have read? Any with a good view or location that you remember? We're trying to decide if this is something we should request, so thanks for your comments!

Re: Bunk Beds at WL We didn't have bunks at the WL, but we did at AKL and the kids loved it! If I recall correctly, there was ample lighting to read in both the top and bottom bunk. Our biggest issue - trading off on who got the top bunk!

Re: Bunk Beds at WL We had bunks at WL with a Wood's view in 2000. My recollection was that there was no lighting over the bunks (which was rectified when the AKL bunk rooms were designed). Nevertheless, the kids loved having the bunks. It also gave us parents a chance to sleep in the same bed on vacation (we each share with a child when we have two queens/doubles). If you are concerned about the lighting, you might want to bring some of those camping headlamps for the kids to use in bed if they plan to play on them in the evening hours. Ours prefered to watch Toon Disney so no extra lighting was needed. -HiddenMickey

Re: Bunk Beds at WL I don't remember the lighting being much of an issue, but we didn't spend much "awake" time in the room anyway. All reading and writing was done at the little table, which had great lighting. The location was nice; we were on the sixth floor right by the elevator that comes out by Roaring Forks Snacks. And the view couldn't have been nicer: mostly what we saw was loads of trees, a pond/lake/some body of water down on the ground, Cinderella's Castle was visible through the trees and, one night, I saw the end of the fireworks. And DS LOVED the bunk beds; I think it was one of the special parts of this past trip for him. Wasn't so bad for us, either; he tended to stay in bed once he got there.

| Re: Bunk Beds at WL We had them on one trip to the WL and the lighting was fine.If one child is older and wants to read and/or stay up a little later then they might want the bottom bunk! Our kids loved the "lodge/woods" view rooms on the North side as we overlooked a wonderful pond with a cute little otter and ducks, and had a great view(especially on the ground floor) of the MK fireworks. | Re: Bunk Beds at WL Our kids loved the bunk beds. As mentioned above, we liked being able to sleep in a bed without a kid. If it was dark, we didn't notice. And the CM who took care of our room always wound our son's stuffed snake (about three feet long) around the ladder. He (our son, not sure how the snake felt about it) loved WL and wants to go back. He was disappointed when we went to CR the next time. We had a woods view, ground floor, near the back exit to the dock for the MK boat. Great location, and there were always all sorts of animals around the pond we could see from our window. Being city folk, the kids were impressed by this. Julie |

Re: Bunk Beds at WL Our kids loved the bunk beds! There was a light on the wall above the top bunk, not a great reading light, but it was round with outlines of animals on it. Our son loved it. We didn't find the lighting to be a problem, and the bunk beds seemed to give you a little more floor space. We had booked a standard view but got a complimentary upgrade to courtyard view. (We went during value season when things were pretty slow.) We absolutely loved it there and can't wait to go back!

Re: Bunk Beds at WL We stayed there last year(6th floor, woods view)and had bunks. Our kids were 9 and 12 then and were getting tired of sharing a bed so we thought it would be the best thing. They liked the bunks-they just switched each night so they each had equal time on the top one. As far as the lighting, I thought it seemed a little dark, but we didn't need the light really. The whole room itself seemed a little smaller than we thought it would be though. We loved the WL and would love to go back soon! I'm sure your kids will love the bunk beds. Laura

Re: Bunk Beds at WL My DD thought the bunks were great. Our location, room 4032, had a great view of the Otter Pond and Cindy's Castle. We loved laying across our bed at night watching the fireworks. Have requested the same room for this June!
