Contemporary fans?

I know there are some die-hard Contemporary fans out there(hello Marie,CRCrazy )But seriously, what do you love about it. I am going to book a Tower room with a view of the castle if possible.

We are taking my Mom and apparently everytime we rode through there on the monorail she thought to herself,I'd like to stay here. Who knew? Just wanted to hear what keeps you coming back. Thanks for anything you can tell me.

Re: Contemporary fans?

The Contemporary is one of our favorite resorts at WDW. We stayed there twice in the tower, MK side. If we had not joined DVC a few years ago, we'd a been back. In fact, our 10 yo daughter still asks when we are going back.

What did we like about the Contemporary?

We really liked sitting on the balcony overlooking the MK at night.

We really liked stiiing on the balcony early in the morning looking out over Seven Seas Lagoon.

Just going down and hopping on the monorail without going outside is cool.

Watching the monorail glide through is neet.

The concourse on the 4th floor with the shops, Chef Mickeys and the Concourse Steakhouse.

A 10 minute walk to the MK.

Taking the monorail to Epcot (switching at the TTC).

The boat shuttle to the WL and Whispering Canyon Cafe.

Re: Contemporary fans?

Ditto to everything that Don said - plus:

Sitting in the hot tub in the middle of the pool, while watching my kids have a blast on the slide, and swimming around - watching the Electrical Water Pageant.

Taking the boat over to Ft. Wilderness for the Hoop De Doo - no forever ride through the campground like everyone else!

THE SHOPPING! I love the Concourse stores - they've got great stuff, and lots of it, and DH can pin shop to his heart's content - they've got as many pins as the main pin stores in the parks!

The FoodnFun Center - both the food and the arcade - the fries at the CR are the best, when you are looking for basic fast food, and John loves the frozen coke slushes in his refillable mug. The arcade is awesome - love the two air hockey tables, and the girls rake in piles of tickets to redeem for prizes at the end of the trip, playing games and skeeball!

The general cheeriness of the decor - you walk into the room, and you just feel happy! I wouldn't want it in my house - but it's perfect for Disney! It's Mickey's house.

I know you aren't supposed to be able to do it anymore - but standing on the observation deck at night watching the castle is incredible!

Sarah loves the moving stairs (aka escalators - two long flights between the lobby and the concourse area).

To repeat - the monorail!! Just something magical - and don't forget to look for the 5 legged goat in the mural as you get on and off!

Re: Contemporary fans?

The view the view the view!!!!

We've been twice and had a MK view both times. In 2001 is was a 6th floor room and I thought it was beautiful. Last time though, we got an 11th floor room, and it was spectactular!!

The concourse is split in half by the giant muriel in the middle. On one side you have Chef Mickey's and Concourse Steakhouse. On the other you have the quieter stores. Our room, both time, has overlooked the resturant side. It's so much fun to look down and see Mickey and Goofy whenever you go to your room!

I love the shops, the places to eat, the arcade, the pool with its two hottubs, the monorail access, everything!!!

Re: Contemporary fans?

Thanks for all your quick replies. This hadn't even been in my top 5 but I love Mom so whatever Mom wants Mom gets.

After reading these posts I am so excited. Plus how wrong can things be when WL is only a boatride away. I knew I could count on you guys.

Re: Contemporary fans?

Wow - everyone has said it all! The Contemporary really is underrated IMHO. That view of the MK from a Tower room is truly a rare gem.

Check out this trip report in the works from a family who just got back! It's a super report!

Enjoy the Contemporary!
