Caribbean Beach Resort

Hello! We will be making our first trip to WDW in August 2003! We are staying at the CBR and would appreciate some feedback. I've read a couple of posts on other websites and saw quite a few negative comments. We can change our reservations without penalty, so I thought I'd check with the pros and get your opinions.

My husband and I are taking our 2yo son and a friend of ours who is in her 20's. And, my sister is taking her 10yo son.

We've booked 2 rooms and have requested the Jamaica island.

Thanks!
Stephanne

Re: Caribbean Beach Resort

Hi there!

CBR is our favorite moderate resort. Jamaica is on the other side of the lake from OPR I believe, and can often be the last stop with bus trips (though to be fair it can be one of the first as well, depending on where you're coming from). The resort was recently refurbished, and has excellent theming. Pools are plentiful, and kids will have a blast in them. Rooms are nice and mousekeeping is very friendly. Our personal preference for room requests is Martinique, as it is right next to the OPR food court and main pool area. No matter which "island" you choose though, you'll have a great time, as CBR is a great resort.

Re: Caribbean Beach Resort

I really loved CBR and wouldn't hesitate to go back there again. Everyone's experiences can't all be the same of course, and things do happen but I think generally this is a great choice for a resort!!

We loved our room especially!

Re: Caribbean Beach Resort

DH and I stayed at CBR for my 30th birthday back in 2000 (before the renovations) and absolutely loved it ! We are from the north so having the Caribbean feel was great for us. Every night we would sit in a hammock and talk about the day and watch the Epcot fireworks. One day we had a quiet pool all to ourselves!

Oh, and we were in the Jamaica building too - I love the colors!!

You've made a good decision!

Re: Caribbean Beach Resort

We really loved CBR and had a very difficult time trying to pick a different resort to stay at this time. We chose Wilderness Lodge this time and are hoping we like it as much as we liked CBR.

I think you will love it.

Re: Caribbean Beach Resort

Please don't have any trepidation about CBR. We just returned a couple of weeks ago and loved it. The grounds are beautiful, very island feel to the resort. On the picture, Jamaica is the village on the left side, blue in color. In my opinion, the only village to avoid like the plague, and we stayed there several years ago so I know, is Trinidad South, which is located at the very bottom of the photo. It is nice if you like secluded, but I found it way too far to walk to Old Port Royale. This time we were in Trinidad North, the village right above TS, and that was just perfect. The colors of Jamaica, light blue and yellow, are just beautiful. I'm sure you'll be very happy with CBR.

We stayed at CBR last May and we loved it! We are staying there this late Sept. early Oct. In the evenings you can see the fireworks from Illuminations. We especially enjoyed the hammocks also. Swingin' over the sand, lookin' at the stars. Our 5 yr. old especially loved the pools. Have a great time!

I also had reservations about staying at CBR (we are going in September). But the feedback I got from fellow passporters put my mind at ease. Let me know your impressions of CBR!

Re: Caribbean Beach Resort

Hello,

I think this is a nice moderate level resort, but my preference is the Port Orleans Riverside. The Caribbean Beach is very large and very colorful - there is a nice big pool and the new food court is nice and the restaurant is better now. I think you'll enjoy it.

Re: Caribbean Beach Resort

Love it! Love it! Love it! We stayed in 1/02 and fell in love with it. It was our first time going to WDW as adults and the first time staying on property. We were in Trinidad North and thought it was a perfect location. Far enough away from the hustle and bustle of OPR, but still only about a 5-7 minute walk away. I think Jamacia is beautiful too, and if you are close to Parrot Cay Island, the walk across the island over to OPR wouldn't be too bad. Hope this helps!

Re: Caribbean Beach Resort

From the looks of Scott's picture, it appears that you have to cross a street from Trinidad South to the rest of the resort. Is there some sort of walkway or are you literally crossing a street? It has been so long since I stayed there (and we stayed in Martinique) so I can't remember! About how long of a walk is it from Trinidad South to OPR? It looks like it would take forever! Oh well, we could probably use the exercise anyway.

Re: Caribbean Beach Resort

We just returned from a trip to WDW and the Caribbean Beach. We were housed in the Jamaica area of the resort. This is a great place to stay if you are traveling with the family. We had two connecting rooms and found them to be delightful. Housekeeping was good.

You may have heard this before, but location is very important at this resort due to it's size-over 2,000 rooms. Some of them are quite a hike from the restaurants and theme pool. Try to request a room in Martinique (which is the closest) if distance is a concern for you.

As I said, we were in Jamaica which was not far from Old Port Royale. Just a 5-minute walk. It seemed much more secluded than some of the other "islands". The restaurant area and guest rooms are newly refurbished and everything is looking great. Hope you have a wonderful time!

Re: Caribbean Beach Resort

We stayed at CBR in the Aruba section June 2003 and absolutely loved it! In fact, we enjoy our time there so much that we will be returning to CBR when we go back this October. The room was bright and clean with plenty of room for my DH, DS & myself. Everyone who works there was very friendly and my 10 yr old son loved the main pool. I hope you don't change your mind and give CBR a try. I think you'll really enjoy it there.
