Thanksgiving.....Am I crazy??? Updated 11/12 in First Post About This Page:

New traditions start this year. I will be having Thanksgiving at my house. Kids will come home from college. I invite all of my sisters families, knowing they have in-laws. I hear back that only one DS, and her DH (and 2 babies - they don't count) and my dad will be coming. So, that's 9 of us. I invite my late sisters' DH and his family to come. I leave an invitation on his phone November 1st. He never calls back. I ask my DD if she has spoken to her cousin recently. She said "Yesterday". I said "Did she mention anything about Thanksgiving"? She says "Oh yeah, she's coming". She's coming? How about her dad, her 2 sisters, and her one brother-in-law? DD doesn't know. DH's brother and our niece will be coming in from California that week. Great! Our first Thanksgiving with them ever! Wait, they don't know - they are thinking of renting a car and driving to NYC to visit a friend (HELLO! NYC is an 8 hour drive from here). They'll let us know. A friend of mine from work who's family lives out of town or will be with in-laws said she would come for dinner. Today said maybe only for dessert. HELLO!!!! I need a count here. You need to commit, people. Do I plan for dinner for 9, or do I plan for dinner for 17? The more the merrier, in my opinion, but am I crazy for being annoyed?

UPDATE! It got even worse! First DB-in-law still hasn't called with the final count of attendees. Second DB-in-law says he should be in "some time" Thursday night - meaning set the table for him, if he doesn't come, pack the food up, then unpack it all and serve him and his DD when they finally do get here. And today, one of my DSister's told me she thought maybe her family would come over (5 of them, although 2 are babies and don't count). When I told my sister that I need to know definitely, she said "What's the big deal? We won't eat much". So, now I plan for a definite 9, but maybe 20.

I don't think you are crazy! 9 vs 17 is a BIG difference!

Not crazy for being annoyed. I expect that people invited to respond yea or nay.
I have actually opened the door, looked at people and said "I'm sorry, you did not RSVP. We did not plan on you being here. Please come again another time, after you call!" and shut the door! DH's family NOW knows to RSVP me when I ask for it.

I also resent the whole "maybe we'll be there, unless something better comes up" - IT IS RUDE! (and Miss Manners says so too)

I'd call everyone again, and ask for a count for who will be there. "I need to know how much food to prepare, I'd hate to run out"

Then, plan for that many plus 3 or 4. You can always eat leftovers.

(I've had 43 for Thanksgiving before - DH's family - They all responded!!)
