| WWYD? I started a new job at the end of August that I'm extremely bored with. During my interview the employer made it sound like I would be much busier than I actually am. I like to be busy at work and not have days and days with nothing to work on. This is a great company to work for so I don't really want to leave. I've constantly asked my supervisor for projects or if she needs help. She always says no, there isn't anything. I actually think she's not that busy either. ![]() Should I look for something different? How bad does it look on a resume that you're looking for a new job after being at the one you're at for only a few months? I jumped at this job after being unemployed for six weeks. Perhaps it was a hasty decision.

| Welcome to my world I know how you feel. I jumped at this job b/c it was a gov't position. I am not always bored, but very often. Actually started looking for another job after 11 months. I feel like a glorified med tech/secretary and don't always agree with the politics of the place. Well I asked to be transfered to another department in the clinic. Answer - "you're too valuable of a nurse to lose in our section." Great, they like me, I'm stuck. When they found out I was looking things changed. They wanted me to take over for a higher rated nurse while she was on maternity leave. I said not without her pay. No, they wouldn't do that!!! Well, when I verbally told the 2nd in charge I was putting in written notice the minute my boss returned from vacation. Up pops an 18% raise. OMG! So, here I am at a job were I am very appreciated, bored, and wasting my skills. My DH is hoping we will be moving in about 7 months back to FL or GA. At that point I will change jobs, hopefully to a more challenging position. If you do look for another job, explain it to the interviewer the whole situation. They may understand.

| If it were me if the only reason was that there was lack of work making me look for a new job then I'd keep it but look and if something better pops up then change but I wouldn't get upset if nothing did. I work in a position that on most days makes me cry when i get home from the people I work for/with that I have been looking for 4 months trying to get out of that position/employer and unable to find anything. So I'm stuck in an unhealthy stressful, and probably not the most wanted job for anyone. So I'd love to have your job instead of mine. Not everyone though likes the same thing, feels the same way so my advice is that if the job you have isn't making you happy then look for one but I wouldn't just leave without nothing lined up. That everything works out!

| Sorry about your situation - I would definitely keep looking for something new but I wouldn't quit the current one until you have something new lined up. ![]()

| First, ![]() I'm in a similar situation at my job. The pay isn't awesome, but it's definitely not bad. However, I find myself going home and taking naps every day because I don't really have anything to do. It's a radio sales job, but most of my clients are on contract, so I don't have to go out and do a lot of actual selling. The total amount of work I do in a month could probably fit into a full 7 day week. I pretty much stay on because A, how awesome is it that I have this much free time?; and B, I'm too lazy/scared to look for another job that I'm going to be miserable at. I like to constantly have things to do, but at the same time, I'm not complaining about the situation I'm in. I'm getting paid preeetty well for the real amount of work I do. It's just frustrating knowing that it isn't really a job that I like, but that I don't hate. So I feel your pain - being in limbo sucks! At least we have internet at work, so I can get on here and post away!

| I have a job like that, too. My real job is selling cell phone contract but we don't do that many of those. I spent a lot of time in the eletronics department helping out. If I didn't do that, I'd be really bored. Liz |

| Sorry to hear that the job isn't exactly what you thought it would be. I would definitely keep an eye out for any other jobs that might come your way. It is hard to spend all day every day at a job that you either don't like or doesn't keep you busy and engaged. I wouldn't worry about leaving after a few months. My last two jobs, prior to the job I currently have, I was at for only a few months each-seven months at the first one before I got fired (long story but not really my fault as I got caught in a political situation with management

| If you are making decent money and the job is fairly secure...DONT leave and screw up a good thing. As a Firefighter i would LOVE to not be busy. there is nothing better than easy money.

| I would wait a little while longer but I would also express to your boss how you feel. Maybe there is a new project that you can work on or something coming up for the New Year. Certain places just get slow during certain times and if you really like the company that I would stick it out a bit longer....(it is so hard to find a place to work where you actually like the people). However if it does not change then I would look - if a prospecitve employer asks why you left after such a short period of time I would tell them the truth, that the job described was not what it turned out to be and that you like to be productive....I think any new employer would be happy to have someone who acutally wants to stay busy....

| Is there another position in the company that would keep you busier? If so, maybe you can transfer to it. You might consider talking to your supervisor about your boredom / lack of work. I know you said that you asked her if there was anything you could help with / do, but she might not have really "heard" you saying that you were bored to tears and ready to head out the door! And I definitely would NOT resign until I had something better lined up! ![]() |

| I'd keep searching, but stay at the job for at least a little longer. If you haven't hopped around too much previous to this, leaving early shouldn't hurt you...but if you don't hate the job, I'd stay just to pull a paycheck while you look for something else. It sounds like you've done a lot there to request projects or more work - must just be a not-busy office. At my last job, I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it. I was hesitant to leave, as the work wasn't too difficult and I had a lot of flexibility. When I was offered a job at the office I'm at now, I almost didn't take it. Now I'm SO glad I did --- I didn't realize how unhappy I was until I found something that makes me so happy! So don't feel bad about leaving a so-so job to find something you really like. ![]()
