Question Help! More contact questions....

Which would you choose...

the contacts that seem to make you see clearer? (in this case, acuvue oasis)

or the ones that you can't feel at all but are slightly less clear? (02 optix)

DD is STILL conflicted over which trial pair she should go with for her prescription.

Does your doc write you a prescription for a particular brand of contacts or only for the strength/size etc.? Our doc said it's written for a specific brand and size.

I am very fussy about my eyesight - my optician is convinced I used to work in optics, I'm that fussy - so I would go for the ones that give the best eyesight.

Your daughter should be able to find contacts that are comfortable AND provide clear eyesight . . . she shouldn't have to settle for one or the other. Contact the doctor, tell him/her the issue, and keep trying until they get it right. My daughter has a different brand and type in each eye.

My doctor has always prescribed a certain brand and type. I love, did I say love,I love my acuvue oasys contacts, they don't dry out like the others. I can't tell they are there either. The moister lens seems to be more comfortable to the degree that I don't feel them, I could feel the ones I had prior due to them drying out, I guess. Also, he said although they say they are 2 week disposible, that if I clean them like I should I won't have to replace them except once a month. Good Luck to your DD she should love wearing contacts......

I am very particular about my eyes and contacts. I would definitely go for the ones that give you the best vision.

I too am very picky about my contact lenses. But I think it is possible to get comfort and clear vision. I just keep working with my eye doctor until I get both.

I used to be picky about my contacts - and the only reason I'm not is because I don't need them anymore.

The optician can write you a prescription for the size/strength you need. You can shop around at other places for contacts. I always did. And, she really needs to keep looking for the ones that are comfy and work well - if I had only the two choices she does, I'd pick clearer sight. and carry some eye-drops.

So, the follow-up appointment was interesting...

DD decided the O2 Optix contacts were more comfortable, sturdy, and easy to get in and out. The Dr. then retested her eyes with the current prescription (that she can't see as clearly with) and based on waving some monocle thingies in front of her eyes and having her read the chart.... he changed her prescription DOWN in strength.

That is a hard one to wrap her brain around. She swears the new ones aren't better than the old ones, but shouldn't they be if she could read the bottom line with the adjustment? I wish we didn't know the original prescription numbers and the new ones. Then there would be no preconceived notion of the new ones being less strong, therefor less "good".

It seems to be that you should have comfort AND good vision wearing contact lenses! I would try a different brand - there are so many now!

When I first got mine (20 years ago!) I couldn't wear Bausch and Lomb for some reason and would ONLY buy the original brand I had. I've since been able to switch around to different brands, based on their price, and have NEVER had a problem with comfort and vision!
