Re: Somebody help....Steve....anybody?

Go to www.startedbyamouse.com/gallery/avatars.html

There are a lot of disney pics for avatars. Right click on one and choose properties to get the URL of the pic. Then here's the directions that Dave posted:

Maybe these instructions for adding a custom avatar will help (please let me know if they're unclear):

Click the my profile link near the top-right of the message board

Click the View/Update Profile link near the top of the My Profile page

Scroll down the View/Update Profile page and click the Select a different Avatar Image link, which opens a separate window

Enter the Internet address (URL) into the Use Custom URL: box

Note: The URL will look something like this
code:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://www.yourwebsite.com/yourpicture.gif

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The URL does have to be an image of some sort (URL ends in either .gif or .jpg) If you're familiar with using clipart for your signature and/or within your posts, this is the same kind of address.

Click the Set URL button adjacent to the Use Custom URL box. Your avatar should appear in the upper-left of the window.

When satisfied, click the Select This Avatar button located beneath the desired image, and close the Avatar window

Scroll to the bottom of the View/Update Profile page (which should still be open), check to see that the desired avatar is being displayed, and click the Update Profile button.

Note that the image you select will be squeezed to fit the allotted box, so you may get a "funhouse mirror" effect unless your image is roughly square.

If you have a digital photo of yourself, you may want to consider uploading it to your personal web server space (nearly everyone has web server space as part of their online accounts) and linking to that image. Due to the small size of the avatar, it's best if the image is a very simple "head shot," with a simple background.

Hope this helps!

<font size="2" face="Comic Sans MS, Arial">Yep - What Michelle said. But also I found my Haunted Mansion avatar by doing an image search on Disney at www.google.com - then I narrowed the search to the Haunted Mansion. You could search on just about ANYTHING imaginable and there are tons of images. GOOD LUCK!

Re: Somebody help....Steve....anybody?

Do you have to put the [img] before and the [/img] after? I tried it this way and the other and the avatar I choose didn't work. I'm going to try and find a different one. Here we go!!

Re: Somebody help....Steve....anybody?

For SMG and anybody else who might be looking for a new avatar: There are a ton more Disney ones at http://www.johnswdwpage.com/ava_MM.htm .

And no, you don't have to include [img] -- just the URL. Be sure to click "Set URL" and then "Select this Avatar" ... then make sure to "Update" your profile. You have to do all three things to make sure your new avatar shows up.
