The bride cuts the cake, the groom cuts the cake...

At your wedding reception, when you cut the cake were you nice when you fed your spouse or were you a meanie?

Susan and I were very nice to one another although she gave me the biggest piece of cake I've ever had in my mouth! It was the only taste I had of that cake on my wedding day. And I remember the DJ played the theme from Jaws when we did it which I thought was tacky , but what can ya do?

Sorry, I'm feeling a bit silly right now.

We were very sweet to each other. One tiny, dainty, little bite for each of us. We were never even offered a bigger piece of cake. Our guests scarfed it down to the last crumb! And the top layer, sadly, was lost in a freak bridesmaid-too-drunk-and-dancing accident.

We were nice. I personally do not get the newer practice of smearing cake all over the face of the one you just finished vowing to Love, Honor, and Cherish. An odd practice, in my book.

Re: The bride cuts the cake, the groom cuts the cake...

We pretended that we were going to smush it into our Best Man and Matron of Honor's faces and after getting a bit laugh, we were nice......

however, when I wiped a bit of frosting on DH's nose (which I had told him about before) he took the opportunity to blindside me with a piece of cake to the face!

My makeup wasn't ruined, so I laughed it off!

Cutting the cake and everyone taking pictures of us holding the knife together was a big tradition, but in Left Armpit , Saskatchewan we didn't feed the cake to each other.

Very nice. We agreed it would be the best way to go.
I was at a wedding once however, where there was an actual cake fight. A lot of people had a very hard time getting the buttercream frosting out of their clothes!!!

Chrissi, You are too funny! Hilarious. I think I could sing the same song about my MIL.

Re: The bride cuts the cake, the groom cuts the cake...

We were also very nice. It's not a tradition in the UK where we got married, but we did a combination of UK/US things.

The funniest thing is that a traditional wedding cake here is what we would call a fruit cake. Although I don't think you can compare what most people know as fruit cake in the states with the quality of cake here. I guess it's because it's their main cake here... (That said they can't make a normal cake or muffins as well as we do.)

Anyway, I hate fruit cake so we had both. But my lovely mother-in-law had made such a beautiful cake we decided to use that for the ceremony.... Well when Richard gave me a bite, without meaning to I got this ewwww look on my face and everyone cracked up. The photographer managed to get it on film as well.
