Good Idea, bad results... Ever have a brainy idea go bad????? Last night I put several tiny bottles of water in the freezer to freeze solid. Well while making a glass of Ice'd Tea (about a hour ago), I came up with a brain storm. I got to thinking (dad alway said trouble happens when I think ) Anyway, I got to thinking if I cut away the plastic bottle it would give me a nice big ice cube that would fit into my Ice tea glass. Ok, got the bottom of the bottle cut off and noticed the bottle wasn't smooth it had indentations around it that prevented the ice from sliding out. So..... when I went to slice the bottle up the side, the knife slipped and sliced the tip of my pinky about 1/2 inch (feels like it went down to the bone) on my left hand. DUMB, DUMB. DUMB!!!! Finally got it to stop bleeding and now it is throbing. Please excuse any typing errors as it is hard typing without a pinky Guess cutting frozen bottles of water isn't a good idea after all but the bottle shaped ice cube fits great in the glass! Have you ever had a good idea that didn't quite go the way you were anticipating it to work?

Re: Good Idea, bad results... Ever have a brainy idea go bad????? Debe- I think we are sisters in another life. I sliced my pinky cutting a frozen bagel a couple of Sundays ago. I had to go to the ER for stitches! I still think that was a great idea. Tara

Re: Good Idea, bad results... Ever have a brainy idea go bad????? I probably could use a few stitches on this one However, it is a weekend and there is no way I am going to sit for hours in the ER. Here at the shore the ER's are always packed during the summer months. I am known as the butterfly queen. Give me a first aid kit with bandages and dressings, & I can do wonders on patching up minor injuries. If something looks too serious or I know someone needs a tetinus shot I refer them to a Dr or ER. I just want it to stop hurting

| Re: Good Idea, bad results... Ever have a brainy idea go bad????? At work one time a co-worker and I thought that it would be a good idea to burn the char build-up on the brioler by riasing it closer to the flame and turning the flame all the way up. The broiler rake caught on fire and we had to use the fire extinguisher to put it out.The other cook desided to take into the kitchen to scub it. It was still hot and when he got half way back there it caught back on fire. So he had a flaming rack in his hands. luckuly no one was hurt. The broiler rake was a little bend after that though. | Re: Good Idea, bad results... Ever have a brainy idea go bad????? Debbie - use super glue. DS got a cut on his face and my friend who is an RN said to do this but it was too close to his eye for me to try. Anyway, we went to the ER and I asked the dr. and he said it was okay to use super glue to bond a cut together until it heals -- but better not try it on the face. In fact, he said the skin-bond that they use now instead of stitches isn't much different than super glue. I'm not kidding about this. |

Re: Good Idea, bad results... Ever have a brainy idea go bad????? I've heard the same thing. Crazy glue your cut if it's small enough!?! Debe, you have my sympathy. I know how much a cut like that hurts. I was chopping carrots into bite sized pieces for my kids lunches a couple of years ago, the carrot moved and I chopped my finger. Luckily the bone stopped the knife from severing my fingertip off. I had to take Advil because it actually hurt bad enough. My DH is still wondering how I managed to get blood on the ceiling! I didn't get stitches and I had to use (I know this sounds gross) a 'feminine protection product' to sop up the blood because I was soaking through bandaids faster than I could take them off and reapply them. Something that was really freaky about 3 or 4 weeks later was that my fingernail grew with a chip in it because I had also knicked the part of my finger where the nail grows from. BTW, my finger is still numb right on my scar and it gives me the willies if I touch it (kind of like that shiver you get on the back of your neck and you say someone just walked on my grave)

Re: Good Idea, bad results... Ever have a brainy idea go bad????? I thought about super glue but the way my luck has been going today (should seem my oven! baking baked beans for a lg group.... ugh!) I better just let that thought pass I know the vets use a simular product and I will say our dogs have no scaring... amazing stuff if you can keep from getting your fingers stuck together or do something dumb like... can't put the super glue down(because you can't find the lid) so you put it in your mouth to hold while juggling the broken item & looking for the lid DUMB DUMB DUMB yes it was me again who had done this... GoofyMom, feminine protection products are great for bleeding injuries and are used by rescue squads just for that reason. Well it quit bleeding but boy does it hurt! Now to just keep from hitting or bumping it.

Re: Good Idea, bad results... Ever have a brainy idea go bad????? Hope you're feeling better. I did something like that while opening a bag of frozen veges. I use a Ginsu steak knife and cut the bag and my finger pretty good. I got the bleeding stopped and went to work the next day. My co-workers told me to go see my Dr. By that time it was too late to do anything.
