Smoking or Non-smoking section?

Curious to know if you are a smoker, a non-smoker or perhaps maybe trying to kick the habit right now?

Me - a non-smoker for my whole life. My sis smoked for about 12 years or so and kicked the habit a few years back.

Re: Smoking or Non-smoking section?

My wife has never smoked.

I dabbled with cigarettes in my late high school years for a few months, but not since then.

Re: Smoking or Non-smoking section?

Non-smoker. My Mom smokes, and I guess I never really noticed the smell until I left for college many (many) years ago. Now whenever we go to her house, I take as few clothes as possible, because when I get home, I wash everything because it smells of smoke. Yuck. .

Re: Smoking or Non-smoking section?

I'm very happy to say that I have always been a non-smoker. My "big" sisters all smoked, so the fact that I escaped is amazing. I remember taking one little puff once, and thought it was disgusting. Never tried again.

Re: Smoking or Non-smoking section?

life-long non-smoker. my allergies make it virtually impossible to be around smoke for even a short while, plus i won't put my children through it. our city government and the next city over are both about to vote to make all public places non-smoking. i really hope it passes.

Re: Smoking or Non-smoking section?

I am a non smoker, and always will be. I see day to day at my job the effects of smoking and what it does to people's lives. Knowing the effects, I have often wondered how people can work for cigarette companies and lay their heads down at night...you would have to be a person of no concience, I suspect.

Re: Smoking or Non-smoking section?

Non smokers here. All family members are non smokers. Our oldest DS recently moved into an apartment. The people below him smoke and he keeps a rug at the bottom of his door so the smoke from their apartment doesn't come into his. We can smell a little smoke when we go to visit him.

<font size="2" face="Comic Sans MS, Arial">Hey Debbie, actually, I worked many years for Philip Morris USA here in Richmond and I'm happy to report that there are tons of folks who work there who are upstanding citizens, indcluding me. Smoking, like drinking or eating fattening fast food (both of which also can kill) is a personal choice that I respect and also a choice that I chose not to partake in for the reasons you state - as do more than half of PMUSA's employees. Anyone who lights up knows the risks. While I also respect your opinion to feel the way you do and to express your opinion publicly, I just want folks here to know that the 8,000 men and women who work here in the Richmond facility are some of the best people I've ever met and worked with - and that PM gives back tremendously not only to the economy but in public service. And you might be surprised to know just how diversified PM is - many products you probably have in your pantry might be under the PM Inc (now Altria) umbrella (Kraft Foods). Just a heads up from a former cigarette company employee.

Re: Smoking or Non-smoking section?

I've never smoked, but my Dad did when I was young. He's been smoke free for 36 years!

While I was in Vegas earlier in the week, I kept coughing and felt congested every time I passed through the casinos. I didn't realize how much second hand smoke affected me! I haven't coughed once since I returned.

Re: Smoking or Non-smoking section?

Well Steve, as you have often said, this is what this country is based on, freedom to say what one thinks...unfortunately, working in the healthcare profession, I see the horrific concequenses of smoking. Although I am SURE many folks who work for Tobacco Companies are fine, upstanding, moral citizens...I do recall many of the lies and deciet these companies have been proven guilty of over the years. So, I stand by my original post, something I am sure you will support my right to vocalize...this is a free country, and we all have the right to our opinions! Thanks in advance for your understanding and support of my right to speak my mind!

<font size="2" face="Comic Sans MS, Arial">Amen, I absolutely support your right - just wanted to clarify the blanket statement you made originally about people working for tobacco companies having no conscience and let ya know that if you have any Kraft products - Oreos, Post Cereals, Oscar Meyer, Philadelphia Brand cream cheeses, etc - in your home or drink Starbucks coffee say then you're supporting the tobacco cause. Not a lot of folks are educated on that.
