Question Did you do anything special when you turned 50?

I'm approaching a "significant" birthday later this week and am pondering what to do with my day. What did you do special, if anything, when you turned 50 or 40 or 30?

Nothing special. Turned 50 this year. Dinner with my siblings, parents and our families at mom and dad's house. This is typical for our birthdays in my family.

When I turned 30, I was 5 months pregnant with DD, so I didn't really do anything, except go out to dinner. For 40, we did a DCL Western cruise ;my bday is Jan but we cruised in Aug. DH's milestones coincide with our anniversary milestones. For his 45th and our 15th, we went to Alaska. For his 40th and our 10th, we did 2 weeks at WDW and a 4-night DCL cruise. For his 30th, we went to Block Island for the weekend (before kids)!

I went to WDW! Well it was actually about a month before my birthday, but that counts doesn't it? We splurged and stayed at the Poly.

I spent my 50th at WDW with my DS. We started the day at Chef Mickey's, toured MK, and finished the day at WCC for dinner. I wore my birthday pin proudly and got all kinds of birthday wishes. I had my pin on on the airplane on the way home, and the flight attendant had the whole airplane sing "Happy Birthday" to me. It was GREAT!!!

I'm still a wee bit south of 50, but not much. DH and I have birthdays that are only 4 days apart - Dec. 27 and Dec. 31. He's 10 years older.
So - for my 40th and his 50th, we had an open house on the 29th! We had just moved a few months before and few in the family or our friends had seen the new house. Plus, the 29th fell on a Saturday!

Since our birthdays are during the holidays we often do nothing special for them, and we don't usually travel during that time. We've spent a few NYE's down in WDW, but that's it.

I spent my 30th at Disney and my 40th later this year will be on board the Fantasy. That's how I like to spend my birthday, as it's only four days before Christmas, so I get a double celebration!

I "celebrated" the whole year I turned 50.....took my DGD to WDW for her first trip ever that June. Then in August for my actual birthday....spent it with family....in November, my favorite cousin (who also turned 50 that year) spent a week in northern CA with our best friends. It was a GREAT year!!!

Great thread.. I'm turning 50 this year in June & while *I* don't have anything big planned not sure if DH or the kids will do anything.. but I am getting some ideas.. The WDW for my birthday sounds great but I don't think it's do-able as were going to WDW this week & my DS2 graduation & graduation party is in early June & $$ will be tight with that.

I spent my 30th having an emergency c-section! Yes, DS will turn 20 when I turn 50.

DH bought me a rechargeable screwdriver for my 40th. Oh, the pain he has endured since. I'm trying to plan something fun for myself in case no one else does (high probability) but nothing has quite got me saying "Yes! That's it!"

We celebrated S's b-day when he was home from college last week. I'll be going it alone this year - only the 2nd year we've been apart for our shared birthday.

My 50th, will be my DD 21st (she was an emergency c-section on my 29th). So next year we are going to do a nice long cruise somewhere. I am trying to convince her a Disney Land/Sea vacation would be great. But I think she thinking more on the lines of the Mediteranian or a long Caribbean one. Maybe if I show her pictures of the Fantasy, I can change her mind.

I took my nephews to Disneyland and San Diego for my 50th, though it was actually 2 months after my 50th. It is usually too busy at work for me to get a good amount of time of around my birthday. Though I will be 55 this year, and I put in for 3 days off hoping to be in WDW for my Birthday

For my 40th I told DH we were going to WDW. I said, if I have to turn 40, I want it to be at WDW. So we were there on my actual bday (Feb 10). Luckily we were still homeschooling all 3 boys at the time, so we didn't have to worry about missing school. It was great! We spent DS1's 16th bday last year on a Disney Cruise. That was fun, too.

The day of my actual 50th birthday we just had dinner out. But a week before I had a Lia Sophia party for my girlfriends to celebrate turning 50. My present from Luke was the absolute best -- DVC points at AKLV.

I am going to be 50 in June. For my actual birthday, I will once again share it with Father's Day (it's actually the 20th but we celebrate them together). For my actual celebration, we will be in WDW in August!!
