How many of you are required to dial all ten digits when you make a local call?
Our area has now grown so much that we are being required to, as of tomorrow.
Today is the first time I actually heard what the start date for it was. Kinda last minute notification, isn't it?
I'm going to have to adjust some numbers in my cellphone. My DD and DS have a LOT more than me in their phones....they've got their work cut out for them.
I have a notice posted on my wall at work. It was dated August 2001. It stated we were going to 10-digit dialing. Look how long it took for it to happen.....11 years!

Well, I haven't had to do that so far, and I haven't heard that it is coming in the future either.
I know that when we lived in Indiana, there were certain numbers that we had to do the whole 10 digit thing, but I didn't have to do it for all numbers. Strange!
We still don't need all 10 digits if it's in our area code. But there are enough area codes in the Mpls metro area that I'm dialing 10 digits as often as not.
It isn't required here, but I put all numbers in my phone that way when I first put them in. I figured that it worked with all 10 and then it was already set if we were out of town and I had to do it.
Been doing it for years too. We have three "area codes:" 281, 832, and 713. It was strange at first and they had only implemented the two 713, 281. Then when cell phones became popular and more available they added the 832. It does becomes second nature though and we dont really think about it much anymore.
Shelley, we live in the same area. I live just east of Baytown towards Beaumont. I was trying to remember when we started the 10 digit. I kinda think maybe in the early 90's?!? I changed cell # a while back and got a 713 after years of 281; so confusing for a while ( ofcourse, it may just be because I'm old!)

I can't even remember when we started its been that long!! DMom's neighborhood is 713 but if you move into it now they will either get a 281 or 832 number, very confusing! I'm just glad that anything you dial on a cell can be the 10 digits and you don't need the 1 in front. That makes programming cell phones easier than home phones (if anyone still has one, i do lol). I remember when everything outside the Houston metropolitan area was 409, not anymore. Some places have changed area codes and Richmond/Rosenberg have grown so much that they have been realigned and given new zip codes in some of the areas. Talk about confusing!
I've never had to do it. Our state has only one area code and all the phone numbers in our town start with the same 3 digits. That's good old New Hampshire: Live Free or Die, and dial as few numbers as possible, apparently.
