No, in fact it's just the opposite. I like it as quiet as possible. Constant noises really bug me (kinda OCD about that) so I would just lay there thinking how annoying the noise was instead of being able to fall asleep. Same thing goes with the flashing lights if someone has a TV on...I have no idea how people fall asleep with a TV on in a dark room.
No artificial white noise for me! Our bedroom is upstairs so we sleep with the windows and french doors open - occasionally we hear the owls and coyotes. We don't run our central heat or air at night.
I have sleep apnea and sleep with a CPAP, before I couldn't sleep with any noise now the CPAP sound helps me fall asleep.
On a funny side note I have to have both my ears covered when I sleep. Not sure why, but even if I'm in a car I have to pull a jacket or something up so my ears are covered.
I don't need anything running to fall asleep. I prefer a dark quiet room. But I also can fall asleep with lights or the TV on, music playing, fans going, etc.

I need some type of noise at all times, especially at night. I have tinnitus really bad in my right ear, and if it is too quiet, the ringing can make me feel disoriented and sick to my stomach.
We usually have the TV on at night, and since it has been so hot lately, we also have some fans on.
I can sleep anywhere (anytime...) No noise required. DH likes the TV on as he goes to bed. I relax by having a warm bath instead so by the time I crawl into bed the TV is off and I fall asleep straight away.
I like a fan going even in the winter, but my husband is very annoyed by the air on his face. On the other hand, he's asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow most nights. I can take hours to fall asleep.
I have trouble falling asleep with lights on in the room. My husband has our closet filled with his routers and computer gadgets. The door can't shut since there's a power cord running out of the closet. I see the blinking lights through the crack. So annoying. I even bought my husband a clock radio that allows you to completely turn off the display because most clocks are WAY too bright to get any sleep. I love that thing.
