What kind of phone do you have - a smart phone or a dumb phone?
Someone Lenny was talking to at work last week mentioned how she didn't have one of the smart phones, that she had a dumb phone because it only made phone calls and did texting. I know I have a strange sense of humor but that just tickled my funny bone - smart phone versus dumb phone. I for one have a semi-dumb phone. I say semi because I know it can access the internet but 1)it doesn't connect very well and 2) even if it could connect wonderfully, I've only used it a couple of times - last year in Disney to see how hot it was and to get my SWA boarding passes. Other than that, I really don't know or even care how it works. I only have my phone for school to get in touch with me about Abby. Mom will call me on occassion for me to pick up stuff if I'm out and Lenny calls even less than that so I can't even tell you the last time my phone even rang. Well I could - it does have that capability - but I really don't care when it rang last. I have the phone simply for phone calls and the last time I actually sent a text message was on my old phone probably about 4 years ago when it messed up. I could hear Lenny when he called but he couldn't hear me so I had to text him to tell him the phone was messed up.
So what kind of phone do you guys have? As I said, mine's a dumb phone and I still have a regular phone in the house too (which I rarely use).
ETA - my dumb phone is also a prepaid phone. The phone cost me $15 for the phone and all the "accessories" - phone holder and ear bud (I don't use either one) and the charger. For $100 a year, I get a years worth of service and enough minutes to last me all year.
I have a smartphone (iphone) and I love it. Before I had a semi-dumb phone as well. It would access the internet and wasn't too bad, but it was horribly slow.
My DH recently retired from the military and now works for a private company that contracts with the military. He travels overseas a lot (3 months gone, 2 months home), we knew he would have better phone access than when he was in the military so we started looking at different options. With the iPhone we can use FaceTime from his international locations and since it uses wi-fi it is free. We can also text using iMessage instead of texting and again it is through wi-fi and is free.
I love all the apps and am actually working on creating an app, although I have to learn how to do that. I am on my phone way too much and often use it instead of my computer unless I need to type something long (like this ) as I still type better on a computer.
I also have a dumb phone, in fact it's an old flip phone without the full keyboard. I very seldom even use my cellphone. I basically have it to keep with me when driving in case of an emergency.
I have an iPhone, too. I love it! I have all my favorite music on it, and have an adapter to plug in my car, so I never lose my station or hate the song that comes on. I have game apps for my DNephew on there, too. It helps keep him occupied in the car when I pick him up or take him home (1.5 hours each way), and it's going to be a lifesaver with him on the flights to Disney and back!
DH has a smart phone, though not an iPhone. DD15 and DS15 just got phones this summer, and they are smart phones, but not as smart as mine or DH's. I have theirs blocked from the internet, though.

Smart phone...my family does as well. I use it as a gps in the car, to find bus/train schedules, to look up phone numbers and addresses when I'm out and things like that besides the using it to waste time playing games
Before my mom had one my sister made a joke about her having a "dumb" phone too, I don't know why but it sounds so funny!
I have a dumb phone -- I didn't even have one that would text until last fall when we got DD a phone.
It's all I need. We only use our phones in emergencies. I can't imagine being accessible 24/7 -- Really, there's nothing so important in my life that it can't wait until I'm home from Target.
Besides, $30 of minutes lasts me a year, and I can think of a lot of things I'd rather spend my money on than a monthly cell phone bill.
recently "upgraded" to a smartphone, but I don't like it.
Internet - just a pain to access, and I can't see it well enough on the phone screen. If I expand the size, then I can't see enough of the web page, so I really don't use the web on the phone.
Texting is easier, I'll admit, but generally I feel like the phone is smarter than I am. Generally, I feel really dumb trying to use it.
I upgraded from a semi-dumb phone to a smart phone last winter. I love my phone (Motorola Droid Pro) because it has both touch screen and a QWERTY keyboard. I hate DH's smartphone because it is touch screen only and I have the hardest time texting on that thing.
LOL! I have a Droid X that is slowly dying. My next purchase will be an iPhone. The only reason I didn't get one originally is because Verizon didn't have the iPhone yet.
After using Blackberries for years, last month I got an Android phone and am still getting used to it. After having her phone for 5 years, DD just upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy, which has a more complicated system then mine (or so I am told). DS 2 has had an Android for a few years and DD1 has pretty old dumb phone but also carries a Blackberry for work.
When I went to get a desperately needed new phone (mine had been freezing more frequently and when it froze for two days, I threw in the towel), smart phones were the only free options, so that's what I got.
