Rough Day So Far!!

1) My grandma called our house to tell me that there was an earthquake about 30 min north of my hometown. My daughter answered the phone(dh, ds and I were in town w/last min Christmas shopping). Daughter misunderstands and thinks that earthquake is IN my hometown and calls me freaking out. I had not heard there was an earthquake, so I start to panic a bit when I try and call my parent's house and I cant get through.

Finally get through to step-dad; says that there was some damage, but not really sure how much(much confusion apparently). They were uptown when earthquake happened. He dropped my mom off at Police Station(she is a 911 dispatcher) and he went home to change into his uniform(police officer) and then was going back to work. Said they would call whenever they got off work(probably tomorrow).

Whew, got that bit of relief. Starting to feel poorly on the way home; 3 miles from home in the middle of a sleet/snow storm when WHAM suburban about 500 feet ahead of us is up in the air and then slams down on its side in teh median!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ive never seen an accident as it happened and I was so shocked. Troy pulls to the side of the road when we get there, throws the phone at me and runs over there. I call 911, but because my voice is so croaky, they can barely understand me. I was about to put 9yo on phone, but I finally was able to raise my voice clear enough to be understood.

Thankfully, both mother and daughter seem to be uninjured! Its a miracle in my opinion. I have no idea why she lost control so badly that she ended up in the air, but the fact that neither of them broke anything at minimum is amazing!!!

May I say how proud I am of our area!! There were no less than 30 cars between both sides of the highway who stopped and ran over, at considerable danger to themselves because of how bad the weather was at the time and how difficult it would have been for an oncomming car to see them.

I need to go take a calgon bath and have a large dose of nyquill!!

Re: Rough Day So Far!!

yes the Lord was definately with them. My dh said that they werent even shaken up all that badly; making jokes about Christmas shopping, etc.

It really is a miracle. That suv was in the air and smashed down hard on its side. They didnt even get a cut or scratch from teh airbag deployment.

It sure is shocking to see somethign like that. When I was a little kid, I saw a man get hit by a car in San Jose CA trying to cross the freeway, but I dont really remember that THANKFULLY. My mom asked me if I remembered tonight when I talked to her and I said not the actual accident, but I did remember being afraid.

I didnt really think to see if my son was affected. I guess I need to do that before he goes to sleep(cold keeping him up, so he is laying on the couch watching tv). Im not sure he saw the actual accident though. I think he just looked up after he heard my dh gasp.
