Red light! Green light! What are your thoughts on cameras set up at intersections that snap your photo as you run a red light and then automatically ticket you? Good in theory - until you receive a summons for someone else borrowing your vehcile, say, as my sister just did when a colleague borrowed her car in the DC area and ran a light. She has no recourse and owes a $45 fine. Here's my opinion - spend the money on upping the police patrol of problem intersections but I'm totally against cameras.

Re: Red light! Green light! Another vote for more police. I don't know how many times I have almost been hit by people, not running red lights, but by going right on red. They apparently feel they have the right of way, even though I have the green and they have the red. Two intersections in particular that I drive thru every day Where are the police

Re: Red light! Green light! Cameras are good. Sorry your sis got a ticket, but, you have to be careful who you loan your car to. What if the friend had crashed into another car? The friend should offer to pay the fine.

Re: Red light! Green light! I think It's a good idea to put up camreas like this It might just save lives. After all folks would stop runnig red lights if they got one too many tickets automatically. So remember Big Brother is watching you.

Re: Red light! Green light! That is the problem with cameras - you can't argue with them. We don't have them over here for running red lights, but we do have an awful lot of them to catch speeding drivers - they are everywhere!

Re: Red light! Green light! I just got an email about this the other day (a silly email). Said something like : upon receiving his $40 ticket and his photo in the mail, the gentleman took a picture of $40 and mailed it back to the police. In the mail a few days later, the man received an envelope back from the police with a photo of handcuffs. No photos up here, but they do have the helicopters that radar your speed and then they radio the police on the ground with your speed.

Re: Red light! Green light! I think the cameras are a good idea. They have them here in NY at the toll booths on the NYS Thruway for people who try to dodge paying tolls. They need them in Florida, as running red lights is rampant down there, at least in the Naples/Collier county area.

Re: Red light! Green light! I dont want Big Brother watching me. More police. A camera isnt going to arrest a drunk driver who plows into a minivan. A camera might get his picture, but then how many more folks does he plow into until they get their limited resources to find him. Im not against cameras at intersections, and in places where there are safety concerns, but we should not take "big brother" lightly. Give the govt a yard and they take 20 miles. Its a very slippery slope and we must be careful that we do not cause an avalanche by our apathy.
