The Agony and Ecstasy of School Supplies

The kids and I absolutely love getting them and this year it was triple fun as Matthew is starting kindergarten- it was so much fun to watch him pick out his stuff (and a smashing Mickey Backpack no less-he's really hooked! )

The agony comes when we sat down this afternoon to label. Label everything. Our schools ask you label each crayon, each pencil, etc- which certainly helps keep losses to a minimum but still 72 + crayons, 24 colored pencils, etc. It was fun at first but the novelty quickly wore off!

It's done though and it's really sinking in now- almost back to school!

You have to label "each" crayon? Maybe I'm missing something here, or kids have become much more careful with their crayons, but when our DS was little, his crayons usually had half the paper off of them before too long.

Actually, come to think of it, they sharpen the crayons at school and we labeled them towards the top- last year we got most of them back at the end of school with the labels still on. I can't imagine that my kids are particularly careful with them though- judging by their desks at the end of the year!

Ah bless Matthew, a Mickey backpack you have taught him well , I don't envy you labelling all those crayons though.

Yowzers. I can't imagine labelling every individual crayon!

The agony of school supplies for us is having to buy $150 calculators for the kids' math and calculus classes Ouch!

Sounds a little extreme to have to label everything. Although its also extreme how expensive back to school is.

The schools here take all of the fun out of school supplies by letting you buy Packages put together by the school district.

We do the same thing and they have the package sitting in the classroom the first day of school for the children so we don't even get to see all the fun stuff.

Ugh - I don't think I would want to label every little thing, either. Glad our school doesn't require that.

I haven't even gotten the kids school supply list in the mail yet.

Wow, Maureen! We had to label the box of crayons but not each one! You must be exhausted!
